Mr. and Mrs. William Barnes of Sandy, were Sunday guests of Mr. tad Mrs. Alfred Dexter and family. Miss Uewel Unebaugh returned Thursday September 4, from a twelve weeka vacation at Portland, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Halllday attended attend-ed the ' Peach Day Celebration at Brigham City, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred 8wenson of fiprlngville, were Pleasant Grove visitors Sunday. Mr. and Mr 8. Ernest Clayton havs moved into Mr. Clayton's old home 1n the Third ward. Mrs. Ford M, Poulson was hostess to the ladies of the Young Mothers Club, Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Moroni Moulton of Salt Lake Cltyt were guests of Mr. and Mrs Archie Boren, Tuesday. Mrs. W. A. Atwood of Spanish Fork, Is visiting indefinitely with her daughter. Mrs. W. H. Pearson. Miss Edna Qlllman will be the guest of friends In Ferron, Emery Co., during the coming Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. 8. L. Dial and family of Shelley, Idaho were guests of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Thorns Saturday evening and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Jacobs, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Richards . and Mr. and Mrs. J.-R. Halllday were Salt Lake visitors Wednesday., Warnick; Swenson left Monday lor the mission home In Salt Lake. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Swenson and his sister, Leah Jean, accompanied accom-panied him to Salt Lake. Mrs. Emma Biers and Rhode Stage entertained their Primary class at the 8tagg home Monday afternoon. Class work, game and refreshments was enjoyed by all. Jensen entertained at an informal birthday social last Sunday. More than fifty relatives and friends called during the day and partook of refreshments, wishing Mr. Jensen a happy birthday. John .Oscar son and family left last Thursday for Maryavale, where "Mr. Oscarson Is employed to teach school the coming year. Mrs. Viola Haddock who has been at the County Infirmary for some time Is in Pleasant Grove living with her mother, Mrs. Stena Young. Florence Stagg, who Is training at the L. D. 8. hospital spent her three weeks vacation with her parents. The last week of her vacation she had aa her guests Ellen Hughes and Marlon Bennett of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Paris of Salt Lake and; Mr. and Mrs. Alvln Nlel-son Nlel-son enjoyed Sunday at the Tlmpano-gos Tlmpano-gos Cave camp in American Fork canyon. The afternoon was spent in childrens games. Dainty refreshments refresh-ments were served. This lKtle party also celebrates the eleventh wedding anniversary of Miss Carol's parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Walker. Julyf the tenth, Miss Cooper companled by Hazel Williams Eureka, Utah left Salt Lake City lor Lincoln! Nebraska, where" they" Joined the Omnibus ' College, "America's Unique Institution on Wheels." The college consisted of ' three-hundred three-hundred end ftty students, guides, driver and Instructors under the able management of William M. Goldsmith Gold-smith Ph. D. The college had representatives from twenty-five states. Miss Cooper and MlM Williams being the only two from Utah. , Z'.l The girls have traveled about nine thousand miles and visited thirty-two states seeing many of America'! finest cities. They spent about a week In New York, a week in Washington D. C. several days In Chicago and the quaint old city of Quebec. The trip through the Southern States was Intensely interesting to the students who studied crops, trees, industries and customs of the South. The college visited inch interesting interest-ing places as Muscle Shoals, Alabama,; Alaba-ma,; the Stock Exchange on Wall street; Sing-Sing prison; Henry Ford's factory at Detroit; the famous planetorium at Chicago and also many fine art galleries and museums. While at the National capltol the college visited the Franciscan . Monastery, Mon-astery, the Catacombs, the great National Cathedral, Hoover's church, the White House, Congress, the Library Libra-ry of Congress, Arlington National cemetery and many monuments both of peace and war. They also enjoyed enjoy-ed an airplane ride and viewed the city from the air. Many fine universities and acade mies were visited on the trip. " The most Interesting being Columbia, Yale, Harvard, Lee, Washington, Went point and Annapolli. . The boat trips up .the Hudson river Thousand islands and at Niagara. Falls will fiever be forgotten. In New York the students were thrilled over the romantic marriage of two of their number who were married In the "little CUurcJi Around the Corner." At New York too, the college was photographed to a special news reel and movietone picture. The college student saw this picture in Chicago. The picture was also shown jo salt Lake last week. Pleasant Grove 80 Years Old Today, September 13th (Continued from page 1) About 1860 the school house which stood on the present Robbins property proper-ty burned. School was held In the meeting house until a new building could be built. This building is still Id good condition and now houses our Public Library. Adobes which had been used in both of the earlier school buildings were used in this building also. The ceiling in the lar(?e west room was arched to make accousticfl better and the school house became a theatre, dance hall and all around community as well. On the grounds outside a bowery provided a place for outdoor activities activi-ties in summer. In 1856 a Relief Society was organized or-ganized with Elizabeth Walker as president. In 1870 a Young Ladies Retrenchment Retrench-ment society, later the Y. L. M. I. A., was organised with" Maria, Josephine Harrey si president' .J ! In 1871 the Utah Southern Railway extended JU Una to Pleasant Grove and with such' easy .' communication with the rest of the world much of pioneer life and hardships soon paas- 7i ....... ...... In 1909 Pleasant Grove's first Volunteer Fire Department wm organized. or-ganized. Many remember the old Martial Band which included William H. Adams, E. U. Ward and William ML Frampton in its membership. The Relief Society officers of the Windsor ward, held an officers meeting meet-ing at the home of Mrs. Wallace Morby. Monday evening. Swenson had as their guests Sunday, Mrs. Marie K. Nelson, and Miss Etta Nelson. Mrs. Ada Warnick. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Warnick War-nick and children, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Swenson.
