Manager Smith has two gas tanks, on one he has a sign, "Hoover Gas" and on the other "Smith Gas". Ac each autoist stops to fill his gas tank, Manager Smith politely inquires which gas they prefer "Hoover" or "Smith", and by the answer given, he Judges which "faith" they belong to His little straw vote casting at the present gives Mr. Hoover a lead of 150 gallons. Supporters of each party may be seen filling their tanks during the day and the lead of each candi. date dropping and raising like a thermomator. Party supporters who do not know of this little straw vote judging better bet-ter take notice, and cast their .votes today. Little of the slang of . yesterday ever remains, but thai minimum that does not drop away is a definite and a constant factor In the growth of language to adapt itself to the changing conditions of a changing chang-ing world, be adds. "Much of the exuberance of slang la simply the Indication of health, animal spirits, vitality, adaptation to new conditions of thought and action," ac-tion," said Doctor Blanchard. "Ben Jonson, the purist, quarreled with the slang employed by Shakespeare, but much of it baa been adapted in our speech, as have seine of the quaint but unorthodox expressions of Kip Ung. The multiplicity of new actlvltx which our modern life enjoys requires its special language, and we have the slang of aviation, sport and even acl ence, the best of which finds Its waj ultimately Into the dictionary."
