Could you successfully run your business without a particular par-ticular em ployee whose skill or technical tech-nical talent the business depends upon? Bank celebrates new drive-up On Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19, there will be a Grand Opening celebration at the new drive-up facility at the corner of Main Street and Center, American Fork. drawings for t-shirts will highlight the event. The buildinghas been completed since spring and customers seem to enjoy the convenience of the new facility. The drive-up features seven lanes and is one of the largest in the state. While they are seated in their cars, people can still see the teller who is helping them. The drive-up is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on week days and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Dale Gunther, President of the Bank of American Fork said, "I am pleased with the way the building turned out. We wanted to capture some of the essence of the old Chipman Buildingsince it was such a core part of the town. It had been here since before the turn of the century, and even though we did not need the amount of space that we have in our new facility, we wanted to build something more substantial." John Vincent and Associates did the architecture for the building IHC president elected to and Charles LeBaron and Associates Associ-ates constructed the building. Orville Gunther, Chairman of the Board of The Bank of American Fork talked about his feelings on the direction the bank went with the new building: "As recently as my early youth, Western towns such as Lehi and American Fork had a general store which sold a wide variety of merchandise. mer-chandise. A trip to this store became be-came a one stop shopping center. You could buy anything in Chipmans from a harness for a horse to a piece of jewelry for your wife. "Later, after World War II, one could buy a farm tractor and implements imple-ments as well as groceries at Chipmans. I remember that it was common for a parent to take his son to Chipmans to get him outfitted when he was called on a mission. He was usually given a discount on a suit of clothes and a suitcase and if he were going overseas, he would also require a trunk," he said. "Chipmans lasted well into the present generation. It finally gave way to the effects of automobile use and the need for a greater variety of merchandise that our rich and prosperous pros-perous system has made possible. "Eventually the buildingfell into complete disuse. It was vandalized and deteriorated rapidly over a period of some 12 years before the Bank of American Fork acquired it. It had become a physical hazard and was in threat of condemnation and complete destruction. "At that point the Bank 6f American Ameri-can Fork negotiated with creditors and were able to come to a satisfactory satisfac-tory arrangement. Serious study was given to the possibility of preserving pre-serving the original building, but it was not found to be feasible. "Initially it was planned to construct con-struct a very small building to house the operators for the drive-in facility, facil-ity, but after consultation with pres-ervationists pres-ervationists and architects and studying the town situation in general; gen-eral; the board of the Bank decided to construct a more substantial building that would somewhat simulate the old Chipman building, build-ing, or at least restore the classical architecture of the period, and at the same time enhance Main Street with a degree of beauty and cultural cul-tural enhancement. "As an institution we feel a responsibility re-sponsibility to the citizens of American Ameri-can Fork and the surrounding communities. com-munities. We take a certain pride in the fact that an institution such as ours can give superior person to person service and also contribute to the community as a whole." Bank of American Fork internat'l post receives 17th five-star rating Scott S. Parker, president of Intermountain Health Care, was voted president-elect of the Inter national Hospital Hos-pital Federation Federa-tion (IHF) at the group's world congress in Spain. The London-based IHF represents hospitals, hos-pitals, hospital associations and govern ment health ministries of more than 90 nations and provides its members mem-bers an opportunity to exchange experiences, education and information infor-mation relevant to the provision of high-quality health services worldwide. Bank of American Fork has received re-ceived a five-star rating for the 17th consecutive quarter from Bauer Financial Reports, a bank research and rating firm in Coral Gables, Fla. The rating, which is the highest given by the firm, indicates that Bank of American Fork's tangible capital exceeds nine percent of tangible tan-gible assets, the risk-based capital ratio exceeds 10 percent, and that delinquencies and repossessed assets as-sets are manageable. Bauer's rating also shows that the institution is soundly invested and that it earned a profit for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 1992. The tangible capital level required for that rating is twice that required by federal regulators. "Bank of American Fork has displayed dis-played uninterrupted excellence in banking. It is a well capitalized bank that comes highly recommended," recom-mended," said Paul A. Bauer, president presi-dent of the research firm. "The community com-munity should be particularly proud of its continued ability to merit our highest rating." A good benefits package or possible stock option or minority ownership in the company is a terrific incentive to not only keeping these people, but encouragingthe continual improvement improve-ment of the business on an ongoing basis to their own benefit. Obviously, you, the owner, will benefit from this as well. Again, a disability program here is a smart move also. If the Key Person became be-came disabled temporarily or permanently, per-manently, they will want to know their financial needs can be met. Money to replace that person can also be provided in a disability program pro-gram as a stopgap measure. This will help the company out until a new hire with the proper abilities can refill the shoes of your disabled employee. It can be done on a temporary or permanent ba-. ba-. sis.
