Show Citizen - Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1988 - Page 8 Sophomore Mikol Blaney organizes fundraising show BY RACHEL C. MURDOCH American Fork High sophomore Mikol Blaney isn't waiting to see what tax initiatives might or might not pass or what effect they may or may not have. She saw a need and decided to do something about it herself, in the form of a fundraising fashion show. Blaney, an Alpine resident, participates on several of the girls sports teams at school, and is interested inter-ested in all sports. While on the track and soccer teams, she noticed somethingshe didn't like too much. "We didn't have that much money to do anything," she said. The boys programs got quite a lot of money, but we never seemed to have any." Looking around at other groups, Blaney thought the band and debate de-bate team and other groups could probably use more money too. So she decided to stage a fundraiser, for all those good causes, "And just so we can have more fun activities," too. Blaney organized a fashion show, which will be put on in the high school auditorium October 18 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be pur AMU: fail fyff Poetry winners... t 1 fir"' ' ' & 4 I As part of the Bank of American Fork's 75th anniversary celebrations, an employees em-ployees poetry contest was held. "Mr. Henshaw liked the idea and said I could go ahead," she said. "He helped a lot in coordinating the stage and everything that's going on." Henshaw said Blaney approached ap-proached him herself, something that students don't usually do. "I thought, well, well give it a try and see if there's any interest, then see where it goes from there." Henshaw Hen-shaw said money raised will go to the student activity fund. Blaney recruited twenty models - ten male and ten female - from the school's population. To help make them look even better, the stage crew is going to help with the lights and technical aspects, and the drama club has agreed to help with the props and stage setting. For the convenience of hunters, all campgrounds will be open to camping. However, because of the cold weather this year, it will be necessary to turn the water off in the campgrounds. Those dispersed areas in Hobble Creek and Salt Creek canyons that have been closed to overnight camping during recent months, will be temporarily open to accomodate the heavy demand for dispersed camping during the elk and deer hunts Recreationists are asked to pay particular attention to a few reminders while in forest campgrounds. cam-pgrounds. Some of these reminders are: horses are not permitted in developed campgrounds, dogs must be on a leash, and all garbage must be carried out. Numerous roads have been designated as open to Off-Highway Vehicles use. These routes will be signed and posted. Loyal Clark, spokesperson for the Uinta National Forest, stated, "OHV users will find their route by the symbol on the post. This provides an opportunity for all users. Routes can also be found on the new ATV opportunity guide."
