The reality is that "things" don't take care of themselves - others step in and do many of the things you want done. It may seem as if putting things off is no problem, but crises develop when others are no longer willing to step in. This can make you angry; you notice your dependency on others and the lack of control you have in your life. Most people would rather stay in this pattern and continue to be dependent than have to take control of their lives. In therapy, we encourage patients to deal with things before this pattern creates crises so unmanageable that they destroy important relationships. The danger in this pattern of procrastination is that it seems easy initially to have things take care of themselves. The early problems seem small, and few see their control of life slipping away. It becomes too easy to blame others and not fully understand your role in the crises. Successful treatment includes learning to identify those things that are important to you and working toward achieving goals on your own rather than through the efforts of others. Seniors can get free Medicare, insurance help A new, free community service is now available at American Fork Hospital for those needing help with Medicare, supplemental insurance and related services. "Many senior citizens and others in our community have expressed a need for Medicare and insurance information and assistance," explains ex-plains Craig Smedley, hospital administrator. "American Fork Hospital is responding to this need by offering free counseling services with a Medicare-and-insurance specialist on an appointment basis." 'A service of the hospital's Senior Life Club, this program will help community residents gain control and understanding of their Medicare and insurance situation. The new Medicare-and-insurance specialist, LaVon K. Harward, is a retired insurance agent with more than 30 years experience evaluating insurance programs. Harward will not be selling insurance, in-surance, but will be offering independent in-dependent advice on filing claims, understanding medical bills, evaluating insurance coverages of senior citizens, assisting seniors in selecting adequate supplemental insurance, and identifying physicians who accept Medicare assignment. Harward says he is pleased to be able to join with the hospital in providing this valuable service for senior citizens in Northern Utah County. "I have been an active part of this community since 1952," he says, "and I am looking forward to joining the American Fork Hospital team." Known and respected throughout the county, Harward worked in the community as an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life for more than 30 years before his retirement in 1983. In addition, he has done extensive ex-tensive research on most insurance programs, and has an expert knowledge of the Medicare-Medicaid Medicare-Medicaid program. Harward and his wife (who is also named La Von) live in American Fork. They are the parents of six children. For a free appointment with the Medicare-and-insurance specialist, call Jennifer at 756-6001, Ext. 321. All interviews will be strictly confidential.
