Ian. 16, 19H5 -laef Carolyn's Hair Designers opens in PL Grove There is a new beauty salon in Pleasant Grove, and according to ownerstylist Carolyn Barker, it has several new services that are new to the community. The salon is not only a full-service one, but a tanning room, electrolysis elec-trolysis (which will be opening soon), and a manicurist will be on duty. Carolyn received her training in California at Marinello Comer Beauty School in Long Beach in 1970. She worked as a stylist in a Long , Beach salon until she got married and moved to Utah in 1972. She worked as a wig stylist at Taylor's Department Store in Provo, and then purchased a wig shop that she owned and operated with the help of her husband. After having two children, she decided in 1977 to get back to work. She worked briefly at two local shops, and moved on to Dean's Style Shop in Orem for six years. She then opened a styling shop in her home, which she has operated for almost two years. Her shop is now in downtown Pleasant Grove in the City Plaza at 140 South Main, Suite 3 (behind Olympic Finance). The shop employs four hair stylists and one acrylic nail artist. Carolyn said that she always enjoys learning the latest in hair care. She also enjoys perming and cutting, and trimming men's hair and beards. Operator JoD'Ann Thrasher from American Fork has recently worked at the Stylist I in American Fork. She also enjoys hair styling.cutting, penning and more. She attended Evans Hair Styling College. Veronica Phiiiips from Orem recently worked at Precision Hair in American Fork. She, too, enjoys doing hair She said that she mostly likes perms, but also likes cutting and styling. She attended Hollywood Beauty School and Von Curtis Academy of Hair Design. Pamela Johnson recently graduated from Mary's Beauty School. She specializes in being especially creative in her cutting and styling. Kelly Crosby is the acrylic nail artist at Carolyn's Hair Designers. She can create 3-D art for nail decorations. She also gives manicures. She received her training from Peerless Beauty Supply's solar-nail classes. She enjoys learning the latest in nail care. Kelly also attends Hollywood Beauty School. Carolyn and her husband, Chris, purchased a Wolfe Sun Tanning Bed. The bed sits in a tropically ler.orated room, which m.kes you 'eel as though you are getting a nice, warm tan in the middle of the ach. Carolyn said that it helps your complexion and builds sun protection for sensitive skin. She a'ided that it gives you a warm glow and improves your appearance. She 'aid that it revitalizes you, just after a short relaxing visit. They have also added a children's piayroom, with a color TV and toys. She said that no appointment is necessary, and that from time to time they will be running specials for all their customers. Dale Murdock, Dr. Roger Sheffield, Dr. David Timpson, Hospital honors Ilene Farmer Dene Farmer, a registered X-ray Technician at the American Fork Hospital, has been honored by hospital officials for going the extra mile in her dealings with staff and patients. Mrs. Farmer has been a registered X-ray Technician for the past 20 years, and has been employed em-ployed at the American Fork Hospital since 1980. She received her training at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Her co-workers say of her, "Ilene is always so pleasant. She is especially sweet and kind to the patients when she is working with them. She is very considerate and friendly to everyone she works with ; is always busy and energetic, working all hours of the day and night. Her sense of human is delightful, and she is a fun person to be around. She is very dedicated to her work." Raised in Idaho and Montana, she has made Highland her home for the past 12 years. Her husband, Richard, is a real estate broker in Salt Lake City. They have five children: Janet, Jason, Jody, Jolene, and a son Ricky, who died in 1971. Mrs. Farmer says she enjoys working at American Fork Hospital and thinks the hospital has a lot of offer the people in this area. "Our employees are all so friendly and compassionate," she says. Roberta Adamson, Volunteer Auxiliary president, said the minature black, brown, or beige bears can be attached to the patients . bed, book, or wherever they like and give a cheerful message from the volunteers. "The response of patients to the tiny creatures has been good," Mrs. Adamson stated. She said each patient admitted to the hospital receives one of the bears which resemble the popular "Care Bears." Volunteers started giving the little bears the first of the year, Mrs. Adamson said, noting plans for the-gift the-gift were formulated under Blanche Cook, immediate past president of the organization. fisflaOGfci?
