Teams coaches by Clark have been in tournament play nearly every year since the Alpine resident began working with the team nearly 20 years ago He is presently assisted by his son. Absent was Coiy Buckner Scout Leader Training Camp Begins "It Ain't Basketball" will theme the scout leader training March 12, 19, 27, 28 and April 2, according to Betty Thornton, district public relations director. The training includes an overnight camping experience March 27 and 28 at Camp Maple Dell in Payson Canyon. The course is aimed at assisting leaders in learning the aims of scouting, patrol methods, helping boys earn merit badges, scout ceremonies and I s J" courts of honors or "in other words - what scoutings all about," Mrs. Thornton said. Leo Freeman, a member of the district scouting comittee, is serving as general chairman of the training sessions. Upcoming Events On March 14, a Den Chief Conference will be held at the Utah State Training School chapel cultural hall. The training session will begin at 10 a.m. All boys who are serving as den chiefs in the Cub Scout dens are urged to attend. at-tend. They are to bring a sack lunch. Jim Ingram, District Cub Scout Chairman, will direct the training. A Webelos leader training session will be held at Maple Dell in Payson Canyon on March 27 and 28. All Webelos leaders in the district are invited to attend. A fee of $3 will be charged. Silver Beaver applications ap-plications are to be in by March 7. These are available from Ron Nyman, District Scout Executive, or Stephen Adamson, district scouting chairman. Nominees are judged on their work with the boys, service to the community, years given to scouting, etc. An Explorer Planning Conference is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at BYU and the Mountain West Explorer Ex-plorer Conference will be held at Logan on March 21. ikt W if" ' I ! r J w v x ".; $ --i r - J ;S The Tri-City Supreme Courts in American Fork recently concluded its highly successful Second Annual Pizza Hut Open racquetball tournament. tour-nament. Competition included over 200 entrants in fifteen different divisions with cash prizes, trophies and awards given to all winners. The tournament included players from throughout the state and all divisions were ranked by the Utah Racquetball Association. This was the largest tournament ever held in Utah County, drawing in about 25 percent more entrants than last year's tournament sponsored by Pizza Hut Restaurants. All entrants received a shirt, free pizza, and drinks during each night of tournament play. American Fork's Pizza Hut Manager, Hope Stansfield, reported that over 600. pizzas were prepared for the contestants. In tournament play, number one ranked Mike McGovern of Salt Lake City beat second ranked Robert Rankin of Salt Lake City in the Men's Open division. The mass of spectators were not disappointed by this fine racquetball playing even though the match was over in two close games (21-17, 21-18 scores). Mike McGovern received the $85 cash prize money for 1 taking this division, which included fourteen of the best players in the state. Rick Strout of Salt Lake City placed third and Larry Brown from Orem beat Craig Dean from American Fork for Consolation honors in the Mens Open bracket. Lani Neer of Salem received the $35 cash award for placing first in the Womens A division. Lorene Peck of American Fork took second place and Susan Terry of American Fork took consolation. Entry fee is $10 for members, $12 for non-members. All those who enter will receive a free shirt Trophies and awards will be given away. All those who place will automatically have their entry fees paid to enter the finals at the Sports Mall in Salt Lake City on March 25-28. Division of play will be: Mens Open through Novice, Womens A through Novice, Mens Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Entry forms must be turned in by Monday, March 9.
