American League won their first two games and lost their third game, while Beehive lost their first game and reached the title contest by eliminating two fine teams: A.F. National and Highland. American League All-Star pitcher Mike Ferris went the full six innings, allowing only four base hits. However, the winning pitcher was in trouble in the 4th frame when the Beehive team got their 3 runs - all in one inning. Gerald Seibert, the hitting star for American, got his team off to an early lead with his 3rd home run of the series in the 2nd inning. The American team scored another run in the 5th when Ricky Durfey hit, pitcher Ferris singled, and Richard Scholes got the RBI to make it 3-2. Only a well executed double play prevented the American team from getting more runs that inning. Beehive stranded a runner in the top of the final inning to set the stage for the stirring win for the American Leaguers. Brett Durrant singled, Todd Glover singled. A fielders choice put Durrant out at home, with Seibert taking 2nd on the throw to home. Ricky Durfey then hit the ball between first and second and Beehive was unable to handle their chance to win. Glover and Seibert crossed the plate with the tying and winning runs. It was a tremendous win for the American League. The Beehive team is and has been very good for years. The American All-Stars All-Stars will play Grantsville this week, in double elimination at Beehive Park. If this group of determined players puts forth the same effort they would be winners again. The week long tournament tour-nament was a tremendous success. All four teams made great plays, with perhaps the turning point of the final game coming when Jeff Curtis hit a shot that seemed a sure home run, but Chad Hampton caught the ball behind and over the fence. He was stunned and hurt for awhile but continued to play. His incredible catch was typical of the solid play by all of the players during the tournament. They were all winners in their own right. Sluggers Crowned State Champs Girls, age 10-12, gathered from throughout the state July 28-31 to compete in the state softball tournament tour-nament held in Orem. The first day of competition com-petition the sluggers claimed an easy victory over a Pleasant Grove team 20-3. 20-3. The second day called for a double header with the first place team from Pleasant Grove and the first place team from Manti. The Sluggers handily defeated both teams 17-0 over PI. Grove and 6-2 over Manti. The Sluggers were again matched against a first place team the third day, defeating Orem 17-8. However, the Sluggers had to play the team from Orem again for the championship, cham-pionship, winning a second time 8-5. Pitchers for the Sluggers were Stephanie Trane and Julie Llewelyn. 2 - --v S Mill WpsI Modification Specials for August Flush mount Sunroofs starting at $180.00 installed Hella Driving Lites atart at $56.00 Fiberglass Fender Flares for Vans $195.00 Painted and Installed Mini Truck Lift Kits $135.00 installed Also many other Custom Accessories for Vans, 4x4's, Mini Trucks & Cars available Custom Body Work & Painting also available Motorcycle Repairs on most makes and models Come On In 681 East State, Lehi 768-9012 Ail senior high school girls, 10th 12th American Fork's volleyball team is the grades, who enjoy competitive volleyball, defending region champion and Coach are invited to try out for this yar's team.
