In a game that included a rain delay of over an hour, Angel An-gel Castillo blasted his eighth home run of the season. The ball cleared the left-field fence and landed in the neighborhood neighbor-hood outside of Dehler Park. Billings was unable to record any hits after the third inning as Chris Schofl pitched four perfect frames in relief. The Owlz continue to lead the Southern Division by two games with an important series se-ries agaiast Casper set to begin today in Orem. I Billings stifles Owlz: At Billings, Bill-ings, Mont., the Billings Mas-tangs Mas-tangs held the Owlz to just four hits to edge the Owlz 2-1 on Monday night. The Owlz had the tying run at third base in the ninth inning, in-ning, but a strikeout ended the game. Billings took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth Wells Continued from Page 7 with Kotchman and Angels general manager Tony Rea-gias, Rea-gias, who each gave glowing reviews of Wells' work. Wells has long days when the Owlz are in town, and his life is a 9-to-5 when they're on the road. His family loves going go-ing to the ballpark. The on-field folks appreciate that Wells understands their lives. "He understands what it's like on the other side of the door," said Brett Crane, who returned from Triple-A Salt Lake to rejoin his close friend this season as director of base ball operatioas. What's Crane mean by that? Orem tied it in the top of the sixth, but the Mustangs regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the frame and Orem couldn't recover. Owlz rally falls short At Billings, Bill-ings, Mont., the Orem Owlz scored four ruas in the final two innings, but it wasn't quite enough as the Owlz fell 6-5 to the Billings Mustangs on Sunday Sun-day afternoon. Trailing 6-1 going into the top of the eighth, the Owlz loaded the bases on an error, single and hit batsman with two outs. Angel Castillo doubled dou-bled in three to pull the Owlz within two at 64. In the ninth, Ivan Contreras doubled to open the frame and, following a strikeout, Dwayne Bailey's RBI single trimmed the deficit to one. Another single sin-gle after a fly out put the tying run on third, but Luis Jimenez lined out to second to end the game. I Owlz beat Billings: At Billings, Mont., Roberto Lopez hit a two-run homer in Orem's four-run four-run third inning and had three the dugout when he knows a between-innings promotion is running long. That helps the pitcher to time his warm-up tosses. He's also understood how to use his new authority to make better travel plans for the team. So he's not icing and wrapping wrap-ping and massaging (worst part of the job). But he is helping. help-ing. "The relationship I have with the players now is definitely different," Wells said. "But I think I can still help them in this role. But I have to admit, at the end of the night I pay every bit as much attention to our attendance at-tendance as I do to whether we've won or lost. Both are important to me now. They have to be." UtMf .coivy RBI overall as Orem beat Bill-? ings 7-3 on Saturday. Darwin Perez went 2-for-4 for the Owlz. I Owlz shut out Voyagers: At Great Falls, Mont., three Orem pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as Orem beat Great Falls 10-0 on Friday night. William Smith got the win on the mound, going six innings in-nings and striking out nine, while also giving up the only two hits of the game. Reyes Dorado went two innings with one strikeout and Andrew Taylor finished up in the ninth, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Donato Giovanatto went 3-for4 with three RBI and a home rua Luis Jimenez was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a solo blast. I Owlz fall to Voyagers in 10: At Great Falls, Mont., four runs in the top of the 10th inning in-ning wasn't enough for the Orem Owlz as Great Falls scored five in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-6 victory vic-tory last Wednesday. i Ml I ' i '! This time of year I'm usually hidden hid-den away in Yellowstone Park on a small meandering meander-ing stream catching brook trout and cutthroats 'til the cows come home. But this year, scheduling conflicts and the price of gasoline has kept me much closer to home. Let's take a look at a few areas that should be a good bet for the 24th of July weekend. Boulder Mountain is a fishing paradise, and since the DWR has reintroduced native Colorado River cutthroats cut-throats back into some of the small lakes and streams on the mountain, reports say that healthy 16- to 18-inch 18-inch fish are now available for the taking. Another ATV paradise with some pretty good fishing fish-ing too is the Tropic area just West of Bryce Canyon. There are literally scores of miles of ATV trails that will place you in close proximity proxim-ity to some of the best small stream fishing in the state. Begin your quest just below Tropic Reservoir and you'll be amazed at the fishing opportunities. op-portunities. The Strawberry River between the lake and Highway High-way 40 towards Daniel's Summit is now open and is full of fish. Our family has enjoys at least one trip a year to this section. Though we are thrilled to catch 100-plus 100-plus small cutthroats a day, every once in a while a giant gi-ant 20-plus-incher will rattle your cage even in the tiny stream. I'm partial to the North Slope area around Bridger Lake, State Line, or even Hoop Lake this time of year. The key to catching fish on these smaller, high altitude alti-tude lakes and streams is to go prepared with both bait and lures. Jake's Spin-A-Lures. Powerbait, and flies behind bubbles are a must for lakes, while small Blue Fox or Mepps spinners are staples for small streams. For fly anglers, an assortment assort-ment of dry flies in a 14 through 22 hook should be your go-to lures. The advantage of fishing remote lakes and streams is that fishing pressure is low and the fish aren't quite as skittish. Have a great 24th and tell me your fish stories.
