Those are the pitfalls of party planning that Zurch-ers Zurch-ers (pronounced ZLR-kers) in Oem hoes to alleviate for professional planners and individuals indi-viduals alike. The new discount party and wedding supply store officially opened on Nov. 1 and offers more than 15.(KM) party items in its 13,500 square foot store. Bob Zurcher first began selling sell-ing party supplies in 1983 at his mother's suggestion in Boise, Idaho, and today his stores offer many familiar items such as streamers, ball(X)ns, tableware, novelty favors, invitations, in-vitations, ribbon, gift wrap and other decorative accents. "We've brought a lot of things together that you can buy somewhere else, but now you can get them in one place," Zurcher said. Unlike many stores that offer only a limited supply of popular items, Zurchers focuses fo-cuses on both a wide selection as well as a generous quantity, l or example, customers can select se-lect bulk bags of party favors, or they can choose individual items from open bins, both at discount prices. "We don't want people to come here and we don't have it," Zurcher said. Carnival-like novelty items such as silly string, jumbo jum-bo combs, oversized sunglasses sunglass-es and groucho glasses are also popular. Life-size stand-ups, confetti, pinatas and novelty hats are available, as well as decorating essentials like double-sided tape and hooks. In addition to familiar supplies, one of the store's strengths is that it can provide unique items coordinated for different party themes. Individuals Indi-viduals interested in a luau party, for example, can find tiki torches, leis, coconut bikinis, biki-nis, hula skirts, colorful palm trees and other items grouped together to make party planning plan-ning a breeze. Other themes the store carries include pirates, pi-rates, poker, Hollywood, princess, prin-cess, western, sports, mardi gras, over-the-hill and baby showers. Zurcher estimates that 20 percent of the store's sales are seasonal items, which he positions posi-tions at the front of the store for customers' convenience. He said that Halloween and New Year's are the most popular holidays, though weddings wed-dings provide a steady business busi-ness throughout the year. Wedding supplies at Zurchers Zurch-ers include cake cutting sets and toppers, garters, bride and groom champagne flutes, white twinkle lights with white cords, tulle circles and spools and dozens of items available in a wide selection of colors to match any wedding theme. From the time the store shelving was in place, Zurcher estimated that it took two months to arrange displays prior to the scheduled opening. open-ing. While no grand opening celebration is planned, Zurcher Zurch-er said that word-of -mouth always brings in customers interested in planning their own parties.
