His numerous hobbies and talents included woodcarvmg. oil painting, tailoring, upholstery, theater arts, genealogy, and Santa Clausing. He married Umia Webb in the I ogan. Their marriage w as later solemnized in the Salt Uike Temple Tem-ple on September 20. 1952 JoAnn was active in the IX)S church, having served as President of the MIA, Relief Society teacher, and Primary teacher Stie was involved in writing and directing road shows, which was a great love of hers. She w ill be remembered as someone who gave a good speech and wrote many during her life for others as well She had a great love of music, being proficient on the piano without knowing how to read music. JoAnn was an avid bridge player and loved her friends and associates. She was named to Who's Who Among American Women and was also one of Utah G unity's Citizeas of the Year. Professionally, JoAnn worked for the Utah County Recorder's office and for Rapid Transit. . - - JoAnn's greatest joy was being a devoted and faithful wife, mother, andgrandmother. She loved being be-ing surrounded by her family and friends, and her positive spirit was contagious. She had a talent of making mak-ing people feel valued and significant, and every time you visited her, you were literally making her day. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. especially her eternal companion Jim, who was at her side for almost 5i years JoAnn is survived by her husband, hus-band, Leo J. (Jim) Brown of Lehi; her daughter Susan (Rich) Corson of American Fork; her son Billy (Karen) Brown of Salt Liike City; and 6 wonderful won-derful grandchildren, who were the joy of her life She was preceded in death by her son, Karry James; her brother Robert Von Karren; and her parents, Alex and Inez Karren. Our special thanks to the staff of Heritage Care Center, and to the doctors doc-tors and medical professionals who made her feel comfortable and cared for the past few months during her illness. Jon Scholes Jon Francis Scholes. 69. of American Amer-ican Fork died March 12, 2006 from complications of diabetes. Born April 18, 19.'-S6 in Logan. Utah the son of F rands Newton and Wanda Lo-retta Lo-retta Mathews Scholes. He married Ruth Burton June 30. 1961 in the Logan LDS Temple. Jon graduated with a Masters Degree from Cornell University Uni-versity in Horticulture and owned a greenhouse and landscaping business. busi-ness. He was an active member of the LDS church and served a mission to the Great Lakes Mission. He loved his family and the gospel. Mr. Scholes is survived by his wife Kuth, 3 sons and .'i daughters: David (Teresa) Scholes; Danny (Lorraine) Scholes; Ruth Ann (Wayne) Andreason; Suzie (James) Freeman; Richard (Rachel) Scholes; Merrianne (Forrest) Buhler, 38 grandchildren; his mother Wanda; brothers Robert (Virginia) and Tom (Rosalie) Scholes; and sister Loralie (Brent) Wilson. Preceded in death by his father. March 12. 2006 of causes incident to age. He was born on Nov. 5, 1918 in Springville. Utah, to John Ernest and Tanjma IX-lilah Miner Johnson As a baby, it is suspected that polio caused a disability making one leg shorter than another and limiting the use of one hand. That never stopped Reed from doing anything he wanted to do during his lifetime. In his youth, he always helped on the farm and in the yard where he inherited a great love for gardening from his mother. In high school he showed a great talent for woodworking, and won ribbons at the State Fair. Many of his beautiful pieces of furniture are still in use today. He went to work at the Tooele Ordinance Depot in 1951. as a machinist, ma-chinist, and gained a reputation for the quality and excellence of his work. He retired in 1981. Dur ing this time he liked to spend his vacation days with his cousins on his aunts and uncle's ranch in Wyoming Wyo-ming or his sister's farm in Mills, Utah. Reed is survived by a sister, Lila Hansen. American Fork; a brother, David C. (Donna) Johnson, Lehi; and a sister-in-law, Bee Johnson, Sandy. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Harlan Williams; brother, Ralph: and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Margaret. The family would like to thank the people of Heritage Care Center who gave Reed special attention and care while he resided there.
