Show Page A8 Thursday, March 25, 2004 Times Newspaper Volunteer Opportunities The Oakview Living Center,' a secure, special-needs special-needs senior center, needs volunteers to play Poker, Rummy, and Uno with residents for entertainment on afternoons after-noons and weekends. Volunteers may also play board games, read books and sing to residents, and must be at least 16 years old. The Utah State Hospital needs volunteers volun-teers to make and donate decorated and filled birthday bags for patient celebrations. Bags may include candy, socks or small games. The hospital also seeks volunteers to assemble children's quilts. The Provo Recreation Department seeks volunteers volun-teers to help with spring pruning, trash collection, river trail maintenance and general gardening duties. Both small and large volunteer groups are needed. The Family Center of Utah needs volunteers to help reorganize and sort materials in their Parent Education Resource Center (PERC) library. The library loans videos, books, tapes and other educational materials for parents to teach at home. The center is also looking for a business mentor to help expand the organization and assist in grant writing. The Center for Women and Children in Crisis needs volunteers two hours per week to play and do crafts with children chil-dren while their parent attends counseling. A six-month commitment and brief training session ses-sion are required. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Timpanogos High Fashion and the Advanced Fashion class The Timpanogos High Fashion Team and Advanced Fashion class will present the school's annual fashion show on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Timpanogos High auditorium. Timpanogos High has the largest fashion fash-ion program in Utah with six classes of fashion being taught. Students come from surrounding schools to take the classes. The annual fashion show is considered the highlights of the year for the fashion program. Another highlight is the trip to New York for Advanced students over spring break to learn more about the fashion industry. In the April 1st fashion show, students stu-dents will model clothing from local stores in 14 different segments, relating to theme, "In the Movies," spotlighting different fashions seen in movies. Tryouts for next year's Fashion Team will be held on Thursday, March 25, with the new team being announced at the fashion show. Tickets for the show will be available at the door for $3. Minor league Coming The current Provo Angels will be moving into UVSC's new Parkway Crossing baseball base-ball stadium. A 10-years agreement agree-ment was reached between the Angels and UVSC that will have the Anaheim Angels minor league team calling UVSC home. The Angels will continue to play tliis year at Larry H. Miller Field before moving to UVSC for the 2005 season. Parkway Crossing Stadium will provide seating for more than 4,000 fans. In addition, the 3.8 million dollar facility, which will open fall of 2004, will include office and training spaces, suites, press box, batting bat-ting tunnels, locker rooms and concessions, all the trappings of a premier college and minor league facility. "We are thrilled to have a permanent home in the community, com-munity, and grateful to UVSC Parkway Crossing and other prominent supporters for making mak-ing this a reality," said Dave Jacobsen, general manager of the Provo Angels.
