"We went 3-Dimensional," third grade teacher Kathy Rhoades, one of the directors of the Art Walk, said. "We thought it would be fun because we had never done that before." Each grade selected a medium and a theme and the result were some very creative creations. Kindergartners made clay Indian In-dian pottery; first graders made airplanes, cars, trucks, etc. from paper bags; for second graders, it was everything from jungle animals ani-mals to polar wildlife from shoe boxes; third graders made paper-mache paper-mache fish and insects; fourth graders depicted scenes from Utah History in boxes or paper containers; the fifth graders made coat-hanger mobiles depicting the things they'd like take with them into the 21" century; and sixth graders made castles and dragons to go with their Mediaeval studies. stud-ies. Orem schools partitipate in Read Atross America Day Tall striped hats were evident in elementary schools all over Orem last Wednesday as the Utah Education Association joined the National Education Association in celebrating Read Across America Day. The March 2 date, selected in honor of Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel's birthday, explained the hats which were replicas of the one Dr. Seuss' famous feline The Cat in the Hat wears. While huge celebrations involving involv-ing thousands of children were held in many cities across the country, here in Orem, each school was left to its own devices to decide how best to impart the message that reading is an important impor-tant part of a child's life. One school that went all out for Read Across America Day, was Cherry Hill Elementary. In the week before the big day, students in each classroom had a chance to choose one of Dr. Seuss' books to read. Then, on Monday, they decorated doors and classrooms to reflect the content of their chosen cho-sen book. Imagination and creativity were evident throughout the school as doors sported scenes from the beloved books of the author who brought so much joy to children everywhere. High blood pressure can affect anyone at any age. Even children can have high blood pressure, although it is less common. Regular high blood pressure checkups should begin in childhood and continue throughout life.
