Show Times Newspaper Wednesday, February 19, 1997 Page 8 Changing roles of women impacts world's future economies Omar Kader, a native of Provo, Utah, currently living in the Washington, D.C. area, will address the Utah County Democratic Women's Organization Organiza-tion at 6:30 p.m. on February 22, in room 213 of the Utah Valley State College, Student Center. . "An Evening with Omar Kader," will center around the discussion of "Expanding the Power of Women in Global Politics". Price of admission is $10 which also includes dinner. Dr. Kader's 25 years of professional profes-sional experience spans teaching, teach-ing, consulting, community development and communication, communica-tion, and information sciences. Kader was on the faculty of Brigham Young University for eight years as a Professor of Political Science and Business Management, and Assistant Dean of the College of Social Sciences. He served as the Executive Ex-ecutive Director of two American NGOs specializing in Middle East affairs. Kader is fluent in Arabic. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and International Relations Rela-tions from Brigham Young University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Southern '' California. According to Dr. Kader, "As women have more freedom in places like the Third World, 4 we are witnessing a tremendous impact on the quality of their lives." Kitchen will celebrate his 80th birthday with his family on Sunday afternoon, February 23, 1997, at his home, 237 West 1100 South, Orem. Russell was born to Samuel , and Edith Prestwich Kitchen in the family home which still, stands at the corner of 800 South and Main Street in Orem. He was one of 11 children. In his boyhood, he herded cows in the area of what is now known as 1200 South. He was also involved in-volved with the family farm, where they raised fruits and vegetables. While he was very young, his father purchased the farm located at 578 North State, I on which there was an old build- ;' ing used for the first Orem post '. office and a small grocery store. He attended Spencer Elemen- i tary School and Lincoln High School, and later served in the Army from 1936 to 1939, at Fort Douglas. On his return from the Army, he married Maxine Gor- ; don and they have three children: Lynette Jeppson, ' deceased; Robert L. Kitchen of Castle Dale; and Deanna Du-Puis Du-Puis of Redmond, Washington. He also has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Russell became an early entrepreneur in Orem, owning three service stations, including the first self-service gasoline station and later, the first car wash in Orem. He was cited by a national trade magazine in an article entitled, "Blue Chips on the Kitchen Table". He also expanded ex-panded his business into a self-service self-service laundry and a restaurant. res-taurant. For many years, he and Maxine owned and operated the wedding reception center at 574 North State. Russell retired in 1970, at which time they moved to Coos Bay, Oregon. They returned to Orem in 1989. His hobbies have included restoring old cars and flying. , Principal Utah Contemporary Dance Theatre performs February 22nd Derryl Yeager, 20-year veteran of Broadway, film,, former Ballet West principal dancer, and choreographer of UTAH!, will be bringing his professional dance company, the Utah Contemporary Dance Theatre, to Timpview High School Auditorium on Saturday, 1 February 22nd at 7:30 p.m. UCDT is a JazzBallet Company Com-pany that is made up of multi-talented multi-talented dancers who have the ability to cross over to any style of dance-ballet, jazz, tap, and even the popular funkhip-hop.
