Christiansen called for the timely completion of the Spanish Fork Canyon-Nephi Pipeline to deliver agricultural, municipal, and industrial water to Juab County and southern Utah County. Responding to two small special spe-cial interest groups which have suggested the Spanish Fork-Nephi Fork-Nephi (SFN) Pipeline be turned north to deliver additional water to the highly populated Wasatch Front, Christiansen offered a reminder that such a departure from the original CUP blueprint is neither feasible nor legal under the CUP Completion Act "We, in essence, have a contract con-tract between the Central Utah Water Conservancy District and those counties to provide CUP water through the Spanish Fork-Nephi Pipeline," noted Christiansen. "When the original 12 counties formed the Central Utah Project and formulated formu-lated specific plans to deliver water to each region, part of the compact included delivery of CUP water to Juab County and southern Utah County. Based on need, we have completed other systems during the past two decades to provide water to the Salt Lake Valley. Now it is time to follow through on the second part of that commitment to supply water to Juab and southern Utah County." MAJOR INVESTMENTS Christiansen said it is correct cor-rect that Salt Lake County taxpayers tax-payers are responsible for 67 of all taxes collected to fund development of the Bonneville Unit's Municipal and Industrial (M&I) water supply. However, Christiansen also emphasized that water users throughout Salt Lake County will receive 65 of the M&I water supply developed by the Bonneville Unit. In addition, the water district dis-trict has made major investments invest-ments in Salt Lake County during the past 25 years, including includ-ing the following: Tax collections to date: $137,396,158. S.L. County projects to date: Jordan Valley Water Treatment Plant, $37.7 million; Jordan aqueduct system, sys-tem, $26.4 million; Jordan Terminal Ter-minal Reservoir, $14.7 million; 34 of water payment, $5 million; mil-lion; 70 of Olmsted Tunnel Project, $10.2 million; 70 of Olmsted Diversion Project, $3.1 million. Total: $115.1 million. ' Christiansen also em-Shirley em-Shirley Hansen Stromness Shirley Hansen Stromness, 71, diedDecember31,1996,whileather home in Kearns, from cancer. Beyond farmers' ability to pay, the power revenues from the participating Colorado River Storage Project hydropower units pay the balance. The M&I users pay 100 of the allocated M&I costs. Costs allocated for recreation, flood control, and water for fish and wildlife purposes pur-poses are paid from federal funds. ALTERNATIVES STUDIED . The Central Utah Water Conservancy District general manager said that many alternatives alter-natives have been studied and re-studied to determine the most effective and cost-conscious plans to deliver CUP water to the Wasatch Front and to central Utah. He noted that the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has been studying alternatives for Provo River water conveyance since the 1960s. The Bonneville Unit water supply and general plan formulation for-mulation was made between 1973 and 1987, during which comprehensive studies were conducted.
