' City of Orem recreation swim meet results given The Orem Fitness Center hosted its first city recreation swim meet on Friday, June 30. This dual meet was held between the north and south teams. Participants included in-cluded boys and girls ages five to 16. Results of the larger events are as follows: Event: 6 & under, 25 free -Women's: 1st, Danielle Smith; 2nd, Robyn Lindley. Today, we start our spotlight on two catchers-Crystal Carver (Mountain View 4) and Ally Snyder (Orem High 3). Most catchers feel good if they can throw a runner out on an attempted steal, but Crystal and Ally, on opposing teams, both succeeded in picking runners off base! Hustling all the time, Crystal also nailed a runner trying to score from third on a wild pitch. Other girls we are spotlighting this week: Sharlene Tuiasoa (Northridge 2) hit two homeruns and batted in seven runs in a recent game. ' Kelly Cobb (Windsor 2) hit a two-run homer for her team. Sydney Scott (Mountain View 1) made a great catch running into the outfield from her second base position. Marci Garrett (Mountain View 5) made a marvelous shoetop catch of a line drive to save a recent game for her team. (The bases were loaded with the tying run on third.) Kati Taylor (Canyon View 4) likewise made an inning-ending catch in right field off her shoetops. Tonilyn Hatch (Orem Junior 5) made a great backhand catch in left field after a long run to reach it. Kim Eckholdt (SharonGeneva) hit a legitimate three-run home run. Ashley Wootton (Canyon View 1) has been a consistent pitcher and hitter for her team, hit-tirjg hit-tirjg two homeruns in one game. Carly Diem, Sunni Jensen, and Jenna Rasmusscn (Cherryhill 1) have been selected as great competitors com-petitors for their team, as hitters, pitchers, and defensive players. Britta Jarvic (Hillcrest 1) has done an outstanding job of pitch-; pitch-; ing for her team. From the Orem 1 team we spotlight spot-light Mallory. Gillespie for her great hitting and RBI's, Annie Gooch for her excellent play at shortstop and for batting close to .900, and Kaycie Zimmerman for her fine hitting and good play at firstbase. (Kayciealso played Little League baseball and made the all-star all-star team!) Marianne Jolley (Orem 2) has been a great pitcher, fielder, and all-round take charge player this year. Katie Schwartz (Lakeridge 6) is being spotlighted for her positive attitude (Her coach says that she never complains), and Lisa Gcigcr (Lakeridge 6) hasdemonstrated ex cellent defensive skill in playing second base for the team. Tiffany Close and Amanda Howard (Lakeridge 8) have both made outstanding outfield catches for their team. Lauren Judd (Orem Junior 6) laced a bases-loaded double to win an exciting extra-inning ball game for her team. Holly Heaps (Oak Canyon 2) has played a steady second base, and Skylar Mills, with her great arm, has likewise been a stalwart on defense for their team.
