Soccer camps to begin Soccer skills development camps kick off next week ---Monday, at 9 a.m. at the Orem Fitness Center soccer field. In all, there are nine weekly soccer camps, scheduled in Orem, Springville, Provo, Lehi, and American Fork, with two separate sessions: Mornings, 9:30 a.m. to noon, and Evenings, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., daily from Monday through Friday. The camps are open for boys and girls of all skill levels, six years of age up to adults who have the desire and determination determina-tion to improve their soccer skills through lots of practice mostly individually and in smaller groups to develop necessary neces-sary skills and the confidence and poise required in the modern game of soccer. Each participant is provided with a hand-stitched soccer ball with the trainer, designed to coach oneself. Chung-Hoon Former Orem High and Brigham Young University basketball bas-ketball standout Tanise Chung-Hoon Chung-Hoon has been named assistant women's basketball coach at Utah Valley State College. Chung-Hoon, who has been coaching in the high school ranks in California the past two years, will join new head coach Cathy Nixon on the Wolverine staff, along with returning assistant Gerrard Carmichael. Chung-Hoon Chung-Hoon will also assume duties as the academic advisor for all of UVSC's athletes. Chung-Hoon is the daughter of Hank and Anna Mclntire of Orem. She prepped at Orem High, where she earned All-Region, All-State, All-State, and Converse All-America honors. Her senior year in 1984, she led the Tigers to' the state championship and was named the 3A Most Valuable Flayer. After graduating from Orem, Tanise received an athletic scholarship to play basketball at BYU. She earned All-Conference recognition, along with being named the Cougar Club Academic Athlete, the MVP of the 1986 Copper Classic, and Academic All-Conference. Chung-Hoon will leave her head coaching position at Bear Creek High in Stockton, California, Califor-nia, to take the UVSC post. Chung-Hoon has a Bachelor of Science in business management finance from Brigham Young University. At UVSC, she will be reunited with Nixon. The two were hoop teammates at BYU. "I'm very excited to have Tanise join our coaching staff," said Nixon. "She has had experience ex-perience in many different areas to prepare her for this job. She has the coaching experience, and I think she will be perfect for the academic advising. She was an honor roll athlete herself. I feel one of the best things she can offer is her ability to be a role model for our athletes, as someone some-one who has balanced participating par-ticipating in sports with academics, a career, and also being a wife and mother." Tanise is married to Kaiwi Chung-Hoon, who is a physical therapist in Stockton. The couple have two children Benjamin Ben-jamin and Lauren. The program is designed to introduce children to a track and field experience. Competition is held separately for boys and girls in age groups as follows: 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14. Alocal fee of $.50 (fifty cents) per event is charged to offset awards. Winners advance several levels from district to state to nationals, all of which are sponsored spon-sored by Hershey Corporation. The local meet will be held Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 7, at 5:00 p.m. at the Mountain View High School ' Track Stadium. Register at 4:30 p.m. the day of the meet at the track.
