They were high school sweethearts and were married February 12, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were born and raised in Orem, having lived here all their lives. Guy served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and Dortha was a secretary for U.S. Steel. The opening presentation will be by Vance Parker, editor of the International Inter-national PAF Users Group Unlimited. Un-limited. His topic will be "PAF Notes in Windows". There will be an American Sign Language signer sig-ner so the deaf can also participate. par-ticipate. After the opening presentation presenta-tion there will be several classes Women In Leadership slates city council women Three city council women representing rep-resenting Mapleton, Provo and Orem, each in her first term of office, will speak at the Women In Leadership (WIL) luncheon Feb. 14 at noon at The Manor Restaurant Res-taurant in Orem. The council women will discuss dis-cuss perceptions they brought to their new roles and the realities they faced in exchange. The council members are Judy Bell of Orem, Shari Holweg of Provo, and Marilyn Petersen of Mapleton. Bell, mother of three sons and a daughter, none living at home, will focus on the difficulty of making decisions amidst public clamor and the importance of gathering facts. The biggest vote getter in Orem's last city election, and Sharee Jensen, also of Orem, on February 14, 1995. A reception will be held in honor of the newlyweds that same date, February 14, at 200 North 200 East, Orem, with a dinner din-ner from 6-8 p.m. and a dance from 8-10 p.m. The bride-to-be and her fiance both attended Orem High School. Bridesmaids will be Cyndi Goodall, Shelly Goodall, and Kerri Egget. Attending the groom will be Scott Jensen, Greg Jensen, Jen-sen, Russ Jensen, Paul Jensen, David Goodall, and Diego Diaz. The couple will make their home in Orem. Book editor to address writers' group tonight JoAnn Jolley, managing editor of Covenant Communications, Communica-tions, Inc., in American Fork, will be the speaker at the February 8 meeting of the Utah Valley Chapter Chap-ter of the League of Utah Writers. Her lecture will focus on getting published in the LDS writers' market. As managing editor at Covenant Communications, JoAnn is responsible for managing manag-ing the editorial and art departments, depart-ments, as well as working with authors to produce high-quality fiction and non-fiction books. She also is responsible for managing the production process at Covenant and she writes promotional promo-tional materials for the company. JoAnn has also worked as an assistant editor at the Ensign, a publications manager, a research assistant, and a freelance writereditor. She has written and edited several books, newsletters, speeches, and scripts. The Utah Valley Chapter of the League of Utah Writers is continually looking for new members. mem-bers. The group is seeking anyone with an interest in writing, publishing, or editing. The League of Utah Writers is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging and developing writers at all levels, as well as promoting the excellence of writing writ-ing in Utah. The Utah Valley Chapter meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month in room L-900 of the Utah County Building (100 E. Center in Provo). Bell faces a new election this fall. She is married to Delbert Bell. Holweg also must decide whether or not to run again in the November election. She has had a busy first term in office as Provo has dealt with major issues, particularly par-ticularly in the commercial arena. Holweg is married to Timothy Holweg Hol-weg and they have two young sons. Petersen, mother of seven ( with five still at home, says she will talk about the balancing act involved in blending public service ser-vice with her real life as wife and mother. Running for office was a now-or-never golden opportunity, she said. She is married to Rodney Rod-ney Petersen. Women In Leadership is a county-wide organization dedicated dedi-cated to help bring balance to appointed ap-pointed and elected offices on all levels. r i - V " fli SHERRIE RASMUSSEN AND WIL WHITTAKER Sherrie Rasmussen to marry Wil Whittaker in Temple Sherrie Rasmussen, daughter of Dan and Elaine Rasmussen of Orem, will marry Wil Whittaker, son of Trish Whittaker, Circleville, Utah, and Hart Whittaker, Whit-taker, St. George, Utah, on . Friday, February 10, 1995, in the Manti LDS Temple. The couple will be honored at a reception that same date, February 10, at the LDS Chapel located at 1200 North 800 East, Orem. The bride-to-be graduated 111 r v ft f' Performances of the classical musical comedy, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", continue at the UVSCTheater. Classical musical comedy to be featured at UVSC Theater "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum", a hilarious musical comedy inspired in-spired by the Latin playwright Plautus, is now continuing a February run at Utah Valley State College (UVSC). The play was written by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, the latter being the head writer for the TV series MASH. Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim are also featured. The plot is based on Pseudo-lus, Pseudo-lus, a roguish slave to a Roman family who plots to become free. His young master, Hero, promises freedom if Pseudolus can obtain Philia, a beautiful young girl whom Hero has seen from his window. Before long, family, neighbors, strangers, and the entire Roman army are drawn into the confusion from Orem High School and completed com-pleted one year at Dixie College. She is employed in St. George. Her fiance is a graduate of Dixie College and is also employed in St. George. Attending the bride will be Becky Halsey and Mandy Whittaker. Whit-taker. The couple will make their home in St. George, where the groom will be continuing his schooling in the fall. : fiti as the comedy unwinds. Randall King, head of the UVSC theater program, stars as Pseudolus while Marty Morgan, choreographer and director of UVSC's Encore, plays Hero. Other cast members include Eric Bjarnson, Lesli Allen, George Macey, John English, Dave Hanson, Han-son, and others. The show will continue February 9-11, 13, 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. in the UVSC Theater. A Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m. will run on February 11. Tickets are $5 for the general public, $4 for seniors, and $2 for UVSC students with ID. The February 7 performance was a special benefit performance. All proceeds went to fund a liver transplant for Dave Nelson, department chair for health and physical education at UVSC. 4 |
