Of course, they should know the score since they were there--in a manner of speaking, at least. Orem's Randy Lamoreaux, Justin Anderson, Shawn Peterson, Peter-son, Trevor Willardson, and Jon Clark all have ties to the team that came from behind to top Skyline in the 1987 state championship cham-pionship game. Randy, Shawn, and Trevor only saw half of the game, however. They spent the first half on the lawn of Rice Stadium playing their own football foot-ball game, Lamoreaux said. By the second half, though, the three ten-year-olds had made it back to the stadium in time to see their brothers win the state championship. Russ Lamoreaux, Paul Peterson, Troy Willardson, and Tyler Anderson all staffed Orem's '87 championship champion-ship team. Jon's father, Paul Clark was then Head Coach Tom Rabb's Defensive Coordinator. Coor-dinator. In 1987, Anderson watched his brother, Tyler, snag three touchdown catches, one of which was called back. That day, justin "was really proud of him. Ever since I saw my brother win it, it's been dream of mine," he said. Part of what motivated this year's Tigers was tradition, Anderson said. Jon Clark agreed. Not only did the 1987 win make some heroes in the minds of the future Tigers, it also planted dreams. "I think it was kind of destiny a little bit," Clark said. "It was such a neat game-at a young age we had a taste of it." Shawn Peterson remembers the 1987 game "just like it was yesterday," and also remembers telling Randy that "we're going to do what our brothers did." But who would have guessed the Tigers would return some seven years later and take the state title back home to Orem? jiaesiA! Even Lamoreaux claims that at that point, "I did have my doubts." But, Lamoreaux adds that "then something clicked." He attributes at-tributes the change in part to a team night pep talk delivered by last year's quarterback Garrett Deucher in which he focused on the keys to teamwork. "I honestly honest-ly think that kind of brought our team together," Lamoreaux commented. Orem did come together, just in time to seal a region championship champion-ship and the state championship they had planned on winning some seven years earlier like their brothers did. In the tournament, Randy, Shawn, and Justin thought about the '87 win often and the decision they made as ten-year-olds: "There's nothing left for us but to win it," Lamoreaux said. Now, the Tigers are a "part of that group of people that won it," Peterson said. We SaIute TriE New State CkAMps! Red Wing Shoe Store 65 West Center Orem 224-2550 a K A P.
