Then, after hitting the books all day, the Bruins return to the gym for two and a half hours of drilling and live wrestling. wres-tling. Orem snuck past the Brighton Bengals 31-29, in a meet that was decided in the final heavyweight match. Going into the final match, the Tigers were behind by four points. Orem's Israel Is-rael Arciniega had to get a pin for the Tigers to win. Arciniega came through for his team, pinning his Bengal opponent with two seconds left in the match. Arciniega's pin sealed the two point win for Orem and maintained main-tained their undefeated status. Against the Hawks, Orem fell behind by nine points after the first two quarters. Although Alta only outscored the Tigers by one point in the second half, their early lead was enough to seal the win. The Tigers went to the bench early, Zirbes said, as juniors like Carrie Taylor spurred Orem to an eight point lead at the close of the half. Orem opened the third quarter with a quick bucket from Adrienne Honeycutt. Within the next three minutes, the Tigers had garnered a ten point lead. Quarnberg, who wrestles at 160 pounds, has a 25-8 overall record this year, and has yet to lose a match in region action. McAffee holds a 18-6 overall record in the 130 pound division and stands 2-2 Robert Steele said of Thursday's match. In the final seconds of overtime against Brighton, the Bengals pulled down a key rebound then tipped it back in at the buzzer to grab a 52-50 win over Orem. The loss brings the Tigers to 2-2 in region play. Facing the 0-3 Bengals on their home court, the Tigers opened the game cold offensively. "We didn't execute our offense very well," Orem Coach Robert Louder said of his team's first quarter performance. On the other side of the court, Brighton was building a substantial lead. By the close of the first quarter, the Tigers found themselves down 17-6 to a fired-up Brighton squad. In the second quarter, both teams matched each other nearly point for point. The Tigers managed to pull within nine points of Brighton by the end of the half. The Tiger comeback continued con-tinued in the third quarter, when Orem warmed up enough offensively offen-sively to outscore the Bengals by two buckets. In the final eight minutes, Orem closed the gap, due in part to Terry Andersen's shooting from the free throw line down the wire. After four quarters of play, both teams were knotted at 44 all.
