The Lady Tigers defeated Roy 61-52. By Gina Clark In preseason basketball action ac-tion Thursday, the Lady Tigers rebounded from a 56-70 loss to Taylorsville and grabbed their first win over Roy. Against the T-ville Warriors, Orem again struggled to get the ball through the net. The Tigers made only 27 of their shots while the Lady Warriors offense garnered 70 points. Along with the shooting, Coach Debbie Zir-bes Zir-bes cited defense as a factor in the Tigers' loss. "We feel bad whenever when-ever we give up 70 points," she said. By the end of the first quarter Orem had a three point advantage ad-vantage and looked to pull ahead. However, the second quarter was marked by an Tiger scoring drought. Taylorsville took advantage ad-vantage of Orem's offensive silence with a 25-9 scoring run. By the end of the third quarter, Orem had narrowed the Warrior lead to nine, but couldn't com- Eletely recover. Taylorsville anded the Tigers their second preseason loss despite the 20 point, 17 rebound effort of senior forward Sherrie Rassmussen. Marsha Snow added 11 for Orem. The story was different on Thursday, as Orem earned a comfortable com-fortable victory over Roy. The Tigers pulled ahead in the second quarter after outscoring the Royals by eleven-even though the first eight minutes found Orem behind. "We were a little bit nervous at the first of the game, but we decided to pull things together," commented Marsha Snow. At the start of the second quarter, the Orem squad increased in-creased their intensity and grabbed the lead. "They came out and really responded,' said Zir-bes Zir-bes of the Tigers' effort. Orem held a twelve-point lead throughout most of the second half, but foul trouble late in the fourth quarter whittled it down to nine. The Tigers ended the game on top 61-52. Rassmussen and Snow again led Orem's scoring with 18 and 10 points respectively. The Tigers continue preseason pre-season play this weekend when they meet Layton, a team ranked second in the state. According to Zirbes, Orem's shooting must im prove in order for success. In their first two preseason outings, the Tigers made just over one-fourth of all their shots. This early, however, how-ever, there's "no panic. Good shooting will come," Zirbes said. it i 4 Standard Brands Paint Co. 396 South State Street Orem, Utah v . t 3 'I 1 JkI iiL-i- jWl t j AID Lino & C carpet UMTS Give a gift that lasts all year, subscribe to the Orem-Geneva Times.
