The American Fork goalie was credited with saving one of the shots. Jake Mangum lead the offense of-fense by taking three of the 5 shots with the other two being taken by Sheldon Kauwe and Stan Olson. American Fork had 7 shots on goal in the first half. Orem keeper Nate Mangum recorded 6 saves with one shot going wide. At the half the game remained scoreless. American Fork struck 2 JEFF TAYLOR Jeff Taylor participates in Phoenix track meet Jeff Taylor, 12, son of Veldon and Barbie Taylor, Orem, participated par-ticipated in the 28th Annual Phoenix Invitational Track Meet held on April 11 and 12, at Sun Angel Stadium on the Arizona State University campus in Tempe, Arizona. There were 800 athletes from 40 track dubs and seven states competing. Jeff was the only participant par-ticipant from the state of Utah, while in contrast, there were 108 members of the Los Angeles Jets, a perennial national power. Despite temperatures near 100', Jeff placed first in his age division in both the 400 meter (1:01.86) and the 800 meter (2:27.8) runs, in representing the Orem Track Club. He is the defending state champion in these two events, in his division, in both 1990 and 1991. In 1990, Jeff was ranked 2 in the nation in both events at the National Junior Olympics. . with cut Orem ties American Fork; defeats Pleasant Grove minutes into the second half when the Orem defense misplayed the ball and Joel Hur-tado Hur-tado of A.F. scored on a breakaway. The cavemen held tight with their 1-0 lead until Jake Mangum scored on a cross from Stan Olson with seven minutes left on the clock. Neither team scored in the remaining minutes and regulation regula-tion time ended in a tie. The game went into overtime and each team had their chance to break the tie but neither team was successful, as both played well defensively. For Orem, Brian Jensen, Mark Steinagal and keeper Nate Mangum had strong performan- Arrests Six juveniles from Salt Lake County were arrested in Millard County when they tried to escape paying for fuel. The arresting officer of-ficer discovered the young men were driving a vehicle stolen from Orem sometime Saturday night from the vicinity of 400 S. 1200 West. The youths, ages 13-16 were returned to .Orem and placed in custody. It also was discovered dis-covered the youths had stolen a van from Salt Lake County. Officer Nielson said five of the youths were runaways from a Salt Lake Correctional facility and one was from West Valley. The juveniles were charged with two auto thefts and other charges. Theft A small yellow Suzuki motorcycle motor-cycle was stolen last Wednesday from a barn in the vicinity of 1500 South and 300 West, Orem. Athlete of the Week KIM HEAPS This week Orem High School's Athlete of the Week is Kim Heaps. Kim, a senior on the Orem Girls Track Team, ran a 11:39.99 and captured cap-tured a second place finish in the 1600 M at the Davis Invitational last Saturday. GROVE Orem dominated Pleasant Grove from the beginning of the game scoring their first goal just five minutes into the period with a shot taken by Jake Mangum who was assisted by Kevon In-ouye. In-ouye. The second goal came ten minutes later when Mangum crossed to Jeremy Fitzgerald who put the ball into the net. Both the third and fourth goals were scored by Stan Olson with Jake Mangum getting assists as-sists for both shots. The half ended with Pleasant Grove pressuring the Orem defense and getting two shots off but both went wide. The score at half was 4-0 for Orem. Five minutes into the second period Travis Shields was tripped in the penalty box. Orem was awarded a penalty shot that was taken successfully by Kevon In-ouye. In-ouye. Just two minutes later, Orem struck again on a cross from Jake Mangum that was shot by Bren-den Bren-den Jensen. The next two goals were put in the new by Mark Steinagal who broke away for one and was assisted by Inouye on the other. Dean Merrill got credit for the next goal with Olson assisting and then Merrill crossed the ball for the final shot taken by Ben Stokes. P.G. keeper Chris McBride was pressured the entire game as the Orem offense took 27 shots on the goal. He registered 7 saves and a courageous effort in the net. The OHS Pizza Hut "Crowd Pleaser" award went to Sheldon Kauwe for his aggressive play throughout the game. 00 Orem Golden Tigers still on top in Region Four 6-0 By Kemari Rawlings The Tigers stayed on top of the American Fork Cavemen last Wednesday to pull out a close victory vic-tory 4-3. American Fork pitcher Tyler Eastman gave up three hits to Orem with Tom Hawthorne , earning two of the three and driving driv-ing in three runs. Orem pitcher Eric Boyer improved his record to 6-0 on the year only-walking in two of American Fork's 3 runs in the third inning. Tiger Coach Terry Harward was somewhat unsure about how the team would perform after coming off a practice prac-tice free spring break. Needless to say, the time off did more good then bad, the team came back As his teammates watch, a Tiger makes the slide into home during action against Pleasant Grove. (Photo: Kevin Young, Geneva Times Staff) Bruins shutout T-Birds, Bulldogs Despite a slow season start, the Mountain View Bruin Soccer team proved last week that it's back on track with a 6-0 shutout of Timpview on Wednesday and a 4-0 victory over Provo. During Wednesday's contest Ian Dunn got Mountain View on the scoreboard 30 minutes into the game after a shot by Lloyd Rickenbach was deflected by Timpview goalie Doug Henstrom. Later in the half, after Henstrom left due to an injury, Bruins Bryce Jolley and Jeremy Stocks wasted no time in scoring for Mountain View. Jolley scored on an indirect free kirk Storks on a pass by Dunn. By halftime Mountain View had built a comfortable com-fortable 3-0 lead. The Bruins continued pounding pound-ing the Timpview defense and both Jolley and Stocks added another goal. Sean Hadlock also scored and cemented the 6-0 victory. vic-tory. Friday night, against Provo, the story was much the same. Dunn scored on a rebound shot early in the game and followed with a second with nine minutes left in the half. Mountain View's offense attacks at-tacks forced Bulldog, goalkeeper Johnathon Sorenson to scramble for ten saves in the first half of play compared to Bruin goalie Bryan Jolley's single save. Fifteen seconds into the second half Senior Brent Hirschi Athlete of the Week DALE O'CONNOR This week Mountain View High School's Athlete of the Week is Dale O'Connor. Dale, a pitcher for Mountain Moun-tain View, is the only undefeated pitcher on the Bruin Baseball team. He pitched 6 innings against Timpview, held the T-Birds to one run, and secured the win. Jamie Jeffords, Tim Terry and Brandon Inouye combined as the Tiger pitching power that blew the Vickings right out of the water. Well at least the Ballpark. Orem exploded offensively in the top of the sixth, claiming most of their 12 runs and closing all doors to the Vikings. Earlier in the Season, Darren Durfey injured his shoulder and is out for the rest of the season. The Tigers next challenge will come on Tuesday, April 28th against the Mountain View Bruins who, Orem has beaten once already this year. The game will be held at Mountain View 4:00 pm. The Following Friday the Tigers take on Timpview at home. goal of the contest The Bruins are now 10-1-2 on the season and travel to American Fork this afternoon at 3:30.
