He's the man behind bringing the Olympic dream to Utah, and the of Commerce, the Utah Economic As chairman of the Salt Lake Bid Committee for the Olympic Winter Games, Thomas K. Welch is truly a modern pioneer. Mr. Welch's commitment to serving the community dates back to his college days, when he was elected student body president of Weber State College. Since then, he has garnered a reputation for community service that includes being President of the United Way of Greater Salt Lake, Chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Amateur Athletics, and board memberships on the Salt Lake Airport Authority, the Salt Lake Area Chamber ui 1 ( (rh Sk rf' (SrTtx HI W 1 hM J : 1 1 . N I 1 I J ' 1 Development Corporation, and the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau. Through the years, Mr. Welch has also contributed a wealth of experience to Utah business. Before leading the Olympic bid, he was executive vice president and corporate counsel for Smith's Food & Drug, helping that company grow to become the grocery giant it is today. Active in church and family affairs, Mr. Welch and his wife Alma are the parents of six children. Geneva Steel is proud to name Thomas K. Welch for this award.
