Orem City provided nearly half the cost of the $300,000 structure helping considerably with the initial in-itial construction. -Seating capacity is "probably around 3-4,000 estimates SCERA president Norm Nielsen. "It all depends upon how cosy people want to be." Audiences may enjoy programs relaxed on blankets spread out on the lawn or may rent comfortable lawn chairs especially cut to fit the contours of the amphitheater. No need to take an expensive vacation away or spend a boring summer sum-mer at home when you can enjoy a variety of events all summer long at the SCERA Shell. - Grand opening activities begin July 19 at the SCERA Shell and will continue until July 25. Special July 24th Activities will begin early in the morning and continue all day. A sunrise patriotic concert will begin at 8 a.m. and will be followed with a community breakfast at 9 a.m. From 10 a.m. until noon, a free talent and variety show will be stag- emmer at the ItelF ed at the Shell. At 5 p.m. the melodrama, "Curses, Foiled Again" will be performed, also free. At 8 p.m. will be the production "Where Freedom Stands" which is playing nightly during the week-free again. "Cinderella" from Alhambra Playhouse will be shown at the Shell July 26, 27, 28 and 30th. July 31 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. will be a showcase performace of "In-termountain "In-termountain Precision Association." That evening the Utah Valley Choral Society will give a free "Pops Concert." August is another full month with a variety of programs, some free and some ticketed. You may check the calendar for specific dates, times and events. In addition to all of the programs at the Shell, SCERA is initiating an Arts and Handicrafts Bazaar to provide pro-vide an opportunity for local people to display and sell their crafts. The exhibits will be on display Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week. Zen Hathaway and Judy Broxton are coordinating efforts. In keeping with SCERA's desire to preserve and promote the arts, each month in the lobby of the Scera Theatre you will be able to view the work of outstanding artist. During the final week of their exhibit an open reception will be given for the artists and those interested may be able to ask the artists questions about their work. Anyone interested in displaying their work in the Summer Bazaar may call Zen Hathaway, 226-1267 for details. The Shell will begin winding down activities in September.
