To be held at the Coachman Banquet Hall at Taylor Square in downtown Provo, the 6:30 p.m. event will feature a full-length screening of the award-winning "spots," selected select-ed form worldwide competion. This year's entries feature the widely-acclaimed Federal Express humorous commercials, part of a group of commercials termed "the best we've seen in 13 years" by Dr. George Barrus of BYU's Communications Com-munications department, a co-founder of COMMA. Also to be shown is a selected group of 15 humorous commercials supplied by David Preese, an account ac-count executive of Tracey-Locke advertising agency of Dallas, who is making the spots available through Dr. Barrus. COMMA President Peter Lasser said that the final slate of officers for 1984 will be announced Thursday night, after ballots have been received and counted. He invited all COMMA members and the general public to the CLIO screenings. Utah State Board Installs Officers State Treasurer Edward T. Alter and Paul L. Gillette, Deputy Director for the State Division of Water Resources, were installed as President and Vice President of the Utah State Retirement Board for a one-year term January 12. OHS Swimmers, Divers Compete The Orem High School swimmers and divers competed in two meets last week. On Tuesday they hosted Timpview in Region action. The Golden Tigers mens team came away with a victory with a score of 94-75. After the meet coach Danny Miller was quoted as saying "I was very pleased with our performance in both the swimming and diving." The men taking first Tigers were: In the 200 yard freestyle team captain Chris Shurtleff placed first with a time of 2:02.35. The 50 yard freestyle was taken by Orem's Jimmy Littler with a time of :25.40. In the 100 yard butterfly it was Terance Begay with a time of 1:01.00. Chris Shurtleff also won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:42.57. The women Tigers fell short of the tough T-Birds losing by a score of 98-70. "The women T-Birds are expected ex-pected to sweep region, and I was very pleased with the girls' performance," perfor-mance," said Miller after the event. The women placing first in the competition com-petition were: DeeDee Ramage in the 100 yard butterfly and Tricia Randall. In the diving competition Orem's men Greg Behunin, Mike Lewis and Todd Nuttall placed first, second and third respectively in the Timpview meet. At Cedar City the Tigers Greg Behunin placed first with teammate Mike Lewis taking third. The women swept the Timpview meet with Kelly Blinzinger placing second followed by Julie Hill in third place and Teri Walter taking first. The Cedar City meet was won by Tiger Kelly Blinzinger Blinz-inger with Terri Walker second and Julie Hill fourth. In Cedar City the mens team came up short of the host team by a score of 89-63. This was the only overnight over-night trip of the year for the Tigers. The Tigers placing first were Begay, Olsson, Shurtliff and Littler in the 200 yard medley relay. Captain Chris Shurtleff won in the 200 yard freestyle. J. Littler won the 25 yard freestyle and Begay won the 100 yard butterfly. In the 500 yard freestyle it was once again Chris Shurtleff plac-' plac-' ing first; Begay placed first in the 100 ' yard backstroke. The women came up short of the host team with a score of 119 to 52. Coach Miller said "I am pleased with today's performance from such a young women's team." The only first placing competitor was DeeDee Ramage in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:23.61. The Tigers will compete today at the Orem Recreation Center against Box Elder. Seniors Plan Winter And Spring Tours The Orem Senior Citizens Center Cen-ter will begin an oil painting class on the 6th of February. All those interested in-terested are asked to be at the center at 10 a.m. This two hour long class will be under the supervision of Margaret Ferguson, an art instructor instruc-tor well-known in the area. There are still a few reservations reser-vations left for the "Winter Wonderland Won-derland Trip to Yellowstone Park." Seniors will leave on February 27 and return on February 29. Another tour scheduled in May OIIS Girls Maul Bulldogs . 8 Orem-Geneva Times- -Wednesday, January 25, 1934 Orem's girls basketball team remained re-mained undefeated in region play by taking a 62-44 win over Provo last week. The game, which was played on the Bulldogs court, was really a struggle strug-gle during the first half. Provo jumped out to an early 4-point lead but Orem roared back to take on 18-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Early in the second quarter the Tigers threatened to make the eame a total mismatch as they extended their lead to 8 points. But the scrap- will be a four-day trip where seniors , py Bulldogs battled back to within can enjoy "Springtime at Lake Tahoe." The tour will include the following highlights: Overnight at the Red Lion in Elko; a fun-filled Lake Tahoe Dinner Cruise; Bowers Mansion in Carson City; a tour of historical Virginia City and "Hello Hollywood" dinner- show at the famous MGM Grand in Reno where seniors will also spend the night. Tour dates are May 22 thru May 25 and interested seniors can call Orem Senior Center for more information. Matinee dancing for the week will feature the Hitch Hikers and Tuesday; Papa's Parlor Pickers on Wednesday and Orem Harmonica on Thursday. Seniors are reminded the Health Screening Clinic is open every Tuesday from 8:30 to 12 o'clock and the ceramics class is held on Friday morning. Seniors are invited to enjoy the facilities at the center where pool, quilting, cards take place five days a week from 9 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. Also, why not join the Saturday night dance dan-ce group and dance to the music of Leland Nielsen's band.
