Show Darrcll Weber Speaks To Golden K Kiwanis Club Dr. Darrell J. Weber was the guest speaker at the Golden K Kiwanis Monday at the Senior Citizens Building. The topic of his speech was "Plant diseases around the home." Dr. Weber has a far-reaching background in botany. He 'received his BS and MS degrees from the University Univer-sity of Idaho and his Ph.D. from the University Univer-sity of California, Davis. He has also done post-doctorate post-doctorate work at the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University. He has been a member of the faculties . at Michigan State ; University; University of ; Houston, Texas; Univer-' Univer-' sity of Wisconsin, Madison; University of California, Davis; and University of Idaho, Moscow. He is presently a Professor of Botany at BYU. Dr. Weber's research on fungal spores and host-parasite complexes has made an international inter-national reputation for him in scientific circles. He was elected a fellow of the Utah Academy of Sciences in 1972 and awarded the Karl G. Maeser Research Award in 1974. He is presently a member of more than a half dozen professional societies. Alone and with colleagues, Dr. Weber has had several papers read at scientific symposiums, sym-posiums, has had many articles published in scientific journals, and has co-authored scientific books, one of which is widely used as a standard in his field. Special guests included in-cluded Orin Jackson, Paul Thorn, Victor Bird and Walt Hedquist. Genealogical Workshop To Be Held Sunday, Nov. 1 The. November session of the monthly Genealogical Workshop at Brigham Young University is scheduled for Sunday (Nov. 1) from 1 :30 to 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library. ! Janet Balmforth, director of the workshop, said classes to be offered , are: : "Using the BYU Library" and "Irish Research" at 3 p.m. "LDS Records as a Research Tool" and "Research in England after 1837" at 4:30 p.m. Also "Using U.S. Census Records" and "Scottish Research" at 6 p.m. AH classes are free and open to the public. The workshop will be conducted on the fourth floor of the Lee Library. In addition to the classes. Balmforth said consultants in all areas of research including parish records. Craft Center Open Mondays The Craft Center on theOrem Campus of Utah Technical College will open Monday nights to the general public on an unscheduled basis for family and individual activities. according to Mrs. Barbara Wardle, Center Director. The Craft Center is located in the Student Center. The Center is already open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m., plus Fridays from 10 to 4 dailv. for regularly scheduled classes, said Mrs. Wardle. The new Monday evening openings will serve the public on an unscheduled basis. Special holiday workshops will be offered to anyone interested.
