Show Hatch Says Food dusslscns Unanswered Utah Sen. Orrin G. Hatch called for an end to "the bureaucratic arrogance arro-gance that exists at the Food and Nutrition Service," Ser-vice," which took three months to answer budgetary budge-tary information requests from the Senator. Hatch's comment was contained in a letter to Agriculture Secretary Robert Bergland. "The department is requesting $1.3 billion in cost overruns for food stamps over the last fiscal year (1979)," the Senator said. "If we're going to expect the people of Utah to dig deep down in their pockets for their part of this large sum in the form of higher taxes, then I think it's time we investigate the cause of these massive overruns. "My request was submitted in time for the Senate's consideration considera-tion of the FY 1980 budget resolution. But the response arrived two months after the budget resolution was passed, and just before consideration consid-eration of the supplemental supplemen-tal authorizations for FY 1979. "Now after three months of delay, I find the department did not really answer my questions ques-tions at all. Most of the answers are little more than political rhetoric. "The Agriculture Department is ready to give information to help increase its budget, but not to assist in finding new ways to save money in its own programs. Mormon Miracle Pageant To Continue Until July 21 The thirteenth annual an-nual Mormon Miracle Pageant opened at Manti, Utah, last week with Mrs. Macksene Rux of Salt Lake City directing the volunteer cast of approximately 400 actors and actresses. The story of the founding and early history of the LDS Church, its' founder Joseph Smith, and scenes from the Book of Mormon unfolded in sweeping splendor across the slopes of the Manti Temple Hill, and will continue Tuesday through Saturday, July 17th-21st. Major roles in the Pageant, many double and triple cast are played by people from all parts of Sanpete Valley and surrounding communities. Fanners, business men, students, wives and mothers, all have attended rigorous rehearsals after a full day's work, for the past six weeks. Parents and children come as a family to represent pioneer pio-neer families. Many are veterans who have had roles in the Pageant most of the years it has been presented, some are first time performers this year. Last year Susan Burton came from Nottingham, Not-tingham, England to be a part of the cast, and this year the participant coming the greatest distance, dis-tance, calls Pamplana (Navarra) Spain, home. New this year are beautiful sets for the lower stage of the Pageant, designed and constructed by Fred Teichert and associates of Salt Lake City. Improved lighting with additional spots and new lighting on the upper stage has been installed by Douglas Barton and his staff at the Pageant site. Up-dated sound equipment has been installed in-stalled by BYU Sound Service. Seating for 10,000 is available for patrons, and many others bring chairs, blankets, etc., and sit adjacent to the chair section. Foreign language experts will again be available through the efforts of Dr. & Mrs. LyleLoosle. Pageant visitors are reminded that full meals are available at two ward houses in Manti, and fast-food fast-food stands are adjacent to the Temple Grounds. However, food, drinks and pets are prohibited from the grounds. The evenings get cool, so . r .: - i -II . 'I PHtl i JHome-Blowr u Rock Wool I: 4 .. ..... . . Save money three ways. Miss Natalie Birch, one of the young performers, per-formers, appearing for the seventh season this year talked about not being in the Pageant: "but then I remembered all the new friends you make, the people you meet.
