Anthony Dollar Coin to be issued in the State of Utah. The new coin was ALIENS Orem's Progressive Cleaner Since 1959 Drcprery Nothing Alterations Allen Drive In Cleaners 566 Sopth State - OrenJ Ph; 225-0501 also released for general circulation recently by area commercial banks. The U.S. Treasury has produced, and the Federal Reserve Banks throughout the country have been distributing, about 500 million of the new coins to commercial banks and branches in the United States. The Bureau of the Mint will be making approximately 100 million more of the coins before year end. The Anthony Dollar is the first coin in the nation's history to honor a woman - Susan B. Anthony, who led the fight for the women's right to vote a century ago. The new coin is made from a 75-percent copper25 percent nickel alloy clad on a 100-percent copper core. It is one inch in diameter, .3 oz. in weight, and is characterized charac-terized by a distinctive 11-sided inner border. The new dollar weighs one-third one-third as much as the old Eisenhower dollar and also one-third as much as the like value in quarters. Treasury officials estimate that our government govern-ment could save approximately approxi-mately $24 million dollars per year in printing costs . alone if the coin replaced dollar bills. This savings is based on the difference in cost of minting the new coin versus printing a paper dollar and the life of each. It costs about 3 cents to make the new coin as compared to the dollar bill which costs about 1.8 cents to print, then taking into consideration consi-deration the life of each, a coin will last approximately approxi-mately 15 years whereas a bill will last only 18 months. In other words, an Anthony Dollar Coin will last as long as 10 .dollar bills. It is also estimated an additional savings of up to $25 million mil-lion per year could be saved by the Federal Reserve Re-serve Banks because of reduced costs incurred in the disposal of worn-out worn-out paper money. Treasury and Federal Reserve officials also feel that the new coin will result in a more economical eco-nomical monetary system both to the Federal Government and to private industry. Com-merical Com-merical users should find that the faster, easier handling of the new small dollar coin, as well as its anticipated wide-spread acceptance by vending and change-making machines, will lead to more efficient operations when compared to the dollar bill. n i r ; - A , f ; ' f 1 , If, '?
