Louise Partridge '3S ' The latest civic vandalism vanda-lism in this state 'is the possibility of the obliteration obliter-ation of handsome, dignified digni-fied and probably unique uni-que Fort Douglas. Yes, there are those who like to declare that historic enclaves are surplus. I protest this vandalism even though the business bus-iness of keeping an eye on us Mormons is not as pressing as it once was. Obliterating wonderful Old Fort Douglas and a great tourist attraction-a attraction-a very lucrative and satisfying sat-isfying trade: The ar-: ar-: chitecture is outstanding and of a kind never again 'to be produced. There are parade grounds, barracks, bar-racks, officers' row and a Boot Hill .graveyard among other things on the premises. Major O' Connor who lead the troups into the new fort so many years ago is buried bur-ied there. But it is the place itself that we have ail grown accustomed to that should be saved. We let the Utah Territorial Ter-ritorial Penitentiary be obliterated, a remarkable pile that once graced Su-garhouse Su-garhouse in Salt Lake City. Ci-ty. We have a priceless, irreplaceable treasure in Old Fort Douglas . all made and setting there, Let's keep this one!
