According to Conservation Con-servation Officer Roy Meadows, a minimum of nine deer have been found shot since January 1, and five of these were found during the past weekend. The deer were not killed for the meat. Three large bucks were found above Alpine by Gary Fowler of the Alpine Police Department, De-partment, along with a mare belonging to Darrell Hall of Alpine. Al-pine. The antlers were removed from the deer and the carcasses were left to rot on the hillside. The remaining deer were does and fawns shot by both small and high caliber bullets. One pregnant doe was shot through the throat while another was shot through the hind I agree to appear in court and testify against the above game law violator. One fawn was killed and field dressed, then the carcass was dragged to the road where it was loaded into a waiting vehicle. Other activities causing undue stress on the wintering deer in all areas of the state include the chasing of deer by thoughtless snowmobilers and owners of 4-wheel 4-wheel drive vehicles. Both activities ac-tivities are violations of the Wildlife Code and carry stiff penalties. Persons spotlighting deer at night are cautioned to leave their guns at home and observe from a distance so as to create as little disturbance as possible. A more desirable time to observe for the welfare of game animals is early in the morning or late evening with binoculars or spotting spot-ting scope. Y Wrestlers Join leans in Tournament Brigham Young University's wrestling team will be in the role of defending champion this week when the Cougars join 46 other teams for the Mountain Intercollegiate Inter-collegiate Wrestling Association tournament on the University campus. Winner of two team titles in the three years they have participated, par-ticipated, the Cougars have been classed with Northern Colorado, Colorado State, Wyoming, and Boise State as the powers to beat in the tournament. Other teams include Utah, Utah State, Western State, New Mexico, Mex-ico, Adams State, Air Force, Montana State, Weber State, Idaho Ida-ho State, Colorado Mines and Northern Arizona. Weigh-in is scheduled for Thursday night, and the sessions are listed for 12 and 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7 ).m. on Saturday. Coach Fred Davis' team, which posted three impressive victories victor-ies last week, feels that Wyoming lould be the team to beat. Even when the roads are dry, Utah motorists won't be able to drive up Little or Big Cottonwood Cotton-wood Canyons during the winter months without snow tires, chains, or elastomeric tire chains in their possession, if the Utah State Road Commission Commis-sion adopts a proposal made recently re-cently by several Utah ski resort re-sort owners. Currently, state regulations allow the State Highway Director to designate certain canyonhigh-ways canyonhigh-ways to be restricted during snow storms to use only by vehicles equipped with snow tires or chains. The restrictions have largely been applied in heavily traveled ski resort canyons, and have lasted only until highway maintenance crews cleared the snow off the roads. Recently, the State Road Commission Com-mission held a public hearing on a proposed change in the regulations regu-lations that would expand the list of vehicles allowed to use restricted re-stricted canyon highways to include in-clude not only vehicles equipped with snow tires and chains, but also four-wheel drive vehicles and vehicles equipped' with elastomeric elas-tomeric tire chains. The latter have been developed for radial tires on which conventional steel-link steel-link chains can't be used. Although no one at the hearing spoke against the proposed changes, several ski resort operators, ope-rators, representatives of the U.S. Forest Service and the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office said they felt the regulations didn't go far enough. Alta Mayor and lodge owner, Bill Leavitt, suggested that travel restrictions apply throughout the winter season, from mid-November mid-November to mid-April, instead of only on a storm-by-storm basis. These activities will be accomplished with due consideration to other resource needs and to the possibility of introduing unacceptable conflicts within the wildlife community." "The thrust of programs related re-lated to this goal will be the maintenance or creation of self-sustaining self-sustaining populations." Yhsatch Ski Reports Theft Two .sweaters and a pair of boots were taken from the Wasatch Wa-satch Ski Service, 935 S. State, earlier this month. Two men entered the store near closing time and occupied the employees with questions about fixing ski bindings. The store owner's wife drove up later and noticed four men leaving the store. Two of them seemed to have somethinghidden under their coats. It was thought that the first two men acted as a front for the other two who took the items from the store. Investigation is continuing. The course will continue for seven more weeks each Thursday Thurs-day from 7 to 9 p.m. Tennis Begins At BYU This Week It may seem a little early for the familiar, "Tennis, anyone?" any-one?" But the 1975 season will get underway at Brigham Young University this week indoors, of course. In rather impressive fashion, the season will start Thursday afternoon on the Cougars' indoor court with the Beehive Invitational Invita-tional Meet. The tournament will run through Saturday with the finals tentatively scheduled for Saturday evening. An opener tournament, the meet will feature players from Utah, BYU and Cal Baptist, along with a number of outstanding local players. Coach Wayne Pearce of BYU has lined up a tournament with some internationalflair. Besides several past and present All-America All-America players from the major and small school ranks, the individual in-dividual talent will include ranked players fromSweden.Yugoslavia, Mexico and Holland. Among the top seeded players are two former BYU All-Ameri-cans, Chris DeGraff and Larry, who are seeded one and two in their division. California B aptist stars are U If Henning, a senior from Sweden who won All-America small college col-lege division honors; Anton De-Koning, De-Koning, a junior from Holland; and Lars Johanson, a freshman from Sweden. University of Utah's talented team will feature Jim Green-berg, Green-berg, a freshman from Los Angeles, An-geles, who ranked among the top five in Southern California last year and among the top ten in the nation.
