They came away with three of the six top honors given to sixth graders and with fourteen four-teen Honorable Mention awards. All of the students attended the State Fair in Salt Lake City and then wrote and submitted themes entitled, "What I Learned Learn-ed While at the Utah State Fair Ruth Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris, wonfirst place in the sixth grade competition. compe-tition. Mountain Bell Awarded For Buying Bonds Mountain Bell-Utah employees 89.7 percent participation in the payroll savings plan for the regular regu-lar and automatic purchase of U.S. Savings Bonds was recognized re-cognized officially today with presentation of a sixth Service Star for their Treasury Minute Man Flag. The 1967 attainment attain-ment percentage of 93.9 percent was the highest for the six-year period of participation for the Utah company. Various animals and animal coverings cov-erings have been brought to school and displayed. The children child-ren have visited different places to see and learn more about animals. Jaguar Jabber by Janice Hirst November 16th through the 20th was declared 'Dog Patch Week by the Student Council. Monday the J ournalism staff and 9th grade presented an assembly depicting life in Dogpatch, as outlined by Al Capp, the famous cartoonist of the comic strip 'Lil Abner'. Kicking off 'Dogpatch Week', th plot unfolded as a group of skunks living In Dogpatch protested, pro-tested, wanting equal rights from Mammy Yokum, (a Dogpatch character who trys to get rid of the skunks.) Homeroom, (1st period), classes class-es decorated their doors to bring the spirit of Dogpatch to Orem Jr. High. These doors will be judged on most creative, most original, and most humorous. The Homeroom to earnfirst place in a category will receive 100 points, 2nd place 75 points, 3rd place , 50 points, and 50 points for participation. Homerooms with the most citizenship points will be honored at the end of the school year. The Fall Festival was held Thursday, November 19th, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A lunch featuring "Hoagie" sandwiches sand-wiches was served. Students took part in a Dog Patch dress contest as characters from the 'Lil Abner' comic strip with prizes awarded to the best dressed dress-ed boy and girl characters.
