To' give you fair warning the , title is the most risque thing about this clever musical music-al appearing tonight, Friday and Saturday at Orem Junior High under the auspices of the Utah Valley Theater Guild. Put a real princess upon 20 mattresses with one tiny pea underneath and what happens? hap-pens? She can't sleep, of course. And if you've already read the fairy tale, be pre pared for an ending that's not just what you expect. The an tics of Lynne Youngreen as the princess who tries to sleep upon .these 20 mattresses (count 'em 20) is one of the high points of the play. If you like music and danc ing, there's plenty to satisfy you in this first Theater Guild production. The a c ting is mainly very good, and there are some excellent character izations. Jan, Camp does a scowling good job as the nagging queen, and her silent king (Roland Pagte) is endearing. Mahlon Grass has a lot of fun as the WizaTd and Lars Christensen is a lithe, bubbling, sparkling, happy- and -sad jester. Our sympathy is constantly with the patient, put-upon Prince (Fred Stout). ' "Mattress' gets the Theater Guild" off to a good start. In future productions, we hope to see more emphasis upon theater than music. It would be a pity if such a promising guild became only a miniature opera society. Curtain time is 8:15. You'll like it, too. E.J. A. .
