Show 1 964 Miss Orem Contest Rc-Sct Fcr April 17 Extension of the deadline for receiving applications in the contest to select Miss Orem for 1964 was announced Wednesday Wed-nesday by Herbert B. Stratton, president of Orem Boosters, Inc. Applications will be received receiv-ed until 5 p.m. April 10 at the Orem City Hall, Mr. Stratton 6aid. The Miss Orem Pageant will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 17 in the Orem High School auditorium. aud-itorium. Winner of the event will reign over the Orem Summer Festival activities of 1964, and will represent Orem City in the Miss Utah contest later in the year. Contestants in the pageant will appear in party dresses and street clothes. They will also have option of appearing in swimming suits, sun suits or bermudas. Each contestant will display her talent in a three-minute routine. Orem civic organizations, churches' and business establishments estab-lishments are encouraged to sponsor entrants in the contest. The registration fee of $10.00 covers all expenses of the sponsor. Co-chairmen of the Miss Orem Pageant are Mrs. Madge Davles and Mrs. Meredith Stratton. Details on the appointment of new principals of Orem High School and Lincoln Junior Jun-ior High are carried elsewhere in today's Times. The Scera Park Elementary School was granted permission to allow their PTA Organiza tion to purchase maps, records, and cussinnaire a r ithmetic rods for the school. Permission was granted. Choirs Combine To Give Concert Combined choirs of the Sharon Stake Singing Mothers will present a cencert April 17 at 8 pjn. In the Orem 12th-19th 12th-19th Ward Chapel. Guest conductor will be Dr. Florence Jepperson Madsen. The combined group will sing "Spirit of Spring" and ' If Ye Keep My Commandments," di rected by Dr. Madsen. Margaret Robinson. Stake director, will conduct "Abide with Me", and "Let Not Your Song End." Special numbers will include a vocal solo bv Coleen Winger and an organ selection by Jay Colyar. A string quartert from Brlgham Young University will present a number. Narrator will be Mrs. Ram-ona Ram-ona Crawford, Mrs. Aris Black Stake Relief Society President, Presi-dent, will preside. Violet Cross and Lucy Laycock will accompany accom-pany on the piano and organ. Ward directors who will lead their choruses in individual numbers are: Lola Jensen, Orem 11: Cleo Webb. Orem 12th; Millie Richins, Orem 13th; Barbara Packer, Orem 16th: Thelma Richins. Orem 23rd; and Emma Bown, Provo 20th. The convention is held each year to evaluate the work of the past year, to make the appropriate ap-propriate awards for the accomplishments ac-complishments of individual members and local chapters, and to elect State Officers for the coming year. Michael Holdaway, Chapter Vice President was awarded one of the four Standard Oil Scholarships which can be used at amy University or College Col-lege in the United State. During Dur-ing the past year Michael's accomplishments were such that he earned the State Farmer Far-mer Degree which is only awarded to two percent of the active FFA membership. He also placed third in the State Public Speaking Contest. Reed Harris, haCpter President Presi-dent was awarded a Sears Scholarship to Utah State University. Uni-versity.
