Show Orem Geneva Times Thursday June 15, 1961 Rodeo Added To Provo July 4th Freedom Festival Provo's Fourth of July Freedom Free-dom Festival- traditionally the state's no, 1 Independence Day celebration, will be "bigger and better" than ever this year with the addition of a two -performance professional rodeo, reports O. Wendle Nielsen, Niel-sen, general chairman. The rodeo, under the direction direc-tion of W. Smoot Brimhall and featuring nationally known cowboys working with producer produc-er Swanee Kirby, will be staged stag-ed Monday, July 3 at 8 pjn. and Tuesday, July 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Utah County Fairgrounds Fair-grounds arena, 11th South and University Avenue. Except for the rodeo, which is new this year, the Freedom Festival will follow rather close ly the format of previous Fourth of July celebrations in Provo, with the calendar of events as follows: Friday, June 23, 7:30 p.m., Miss Liberty Belle Pageant at Provo High School, with 15 finalists for the title of cele bration queen. June 27-July 4, carnival, rides and concessions at North Park, Fifth North and Fourth West. Saturday, July 1, 7 p.m., children's parade from First East to Fourth West on Center Cen-ter Street. Saturday, July 1, 9 pjn., Freedom Frolic public dance at Bonneville-Fifteenth Ward, 85 South 9th East. Sunday, July 2, 8:15 p.m. patriotic assembly at B Y U Fieldhouse. Sunday, June 25, 8 p.m., finals fin-als of Freedom oratorical contest, con-test, Provo Tabernacle. July 1, 3 and 4, Relief Society Soc-iety Bazaar, North Park, Fifth North and Fourth West. Monday, July 3, 8 p.m. rodeo at fairgrounds. Tuesday, July 4, 9:30 a.m., mammoth parade, from 11th No south on University Avenue to Center Street, then east to the Utah State Hospital. Orem Youth, 19 Shot Accidentally By Lehi Boy Still listed in "fair" condition condit-ion art Utah Valley Hospital Wednesday was Richard W. Miller, 19, 415 W. 2000 N., Orem. Mr. Miller suffered an accidental gunshot wound from a 22 caliber rifle Saturday Satur-day night in Lehi. The youth was injured when he walked in front of a gun held by Jack Elsbury, 16, 415 N. 1st East, Lehi, according accord-ing to investigating officers. The Elsbury boy was aiming the rifle at the wall In his home when it discharged injuring in-juring Miller, officers said. The two boys and another friend, Ellis Lenburg, 15, 188 So. 1st West, Lehi, had held a music practice at the Elsbury Els-bury home and after the session ses-sion began playing with the rifle. The Injured . youth was taken to the American Fork Hospital and later transferred to Utah Valley Hospital for surgery.
