Show OREM-GENEVA TIMES . , THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 1958 in IMS GMEKL NINE MEMBERS HAVE SERVED CONTINOUSLY FOR PAST 10 YEARS Orem Fire Hall has grown from a garage to a two story building with living quarters for a full time fireman. It also serves as a meeting and recreation room. The department presently . has 26 volunteer members. These men are local businessmen or otherwise other-wise employed. They answer fire calls day or night, often having to lock up businesses or leave their 'work to attend a fire. Nine members of the volunteers volun-teers who will be honored in the near future for having hav-ing served continuously for 10 years are: Grant Young, Glen Healey, Howard Hall, Max Peder-son, Peder-son, Ted Sorensen, Richard Brewer, Victor Christen-sen, Christen-sen, Weston Kofford and Arnold Long. Also serving 10 years in the department are Fire Chief Scott Thompson and Assistant Fire Chief Howard Jacob-sen. M $ ft x - i i .iAY. a J .f. .. TRAINING DRILLS CONTRIBUTE TO DEPARTMENT EFFICIENCY : The Orem Fire Department was formed in 1947 as a civic project of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. It was later re-organized as a. separate organization known as the Orem Volunteer Fire Department with a large number of Jaycees becoming charter members. ' J . , Orem City Council purchased the first fire truck in 1948 and employed Scott Thompson as Fire Chief to maintain department and train volunteers. After ten years the fire department has four fire itrucks, including a $30,000.00 pumper purchased late in 1957, The volunteer Department meets twice a month for fire drills. By practice they make every effort to im-, im-, prove their efficiency and keep abreast of modern fire fighting methods.
