Show OREM -GENEVA TIMES THURSDAY, SEPT. 19, 1957 'Give An Ounce of Prevention To Save Pounds of Cure' This is the plea Orem area citizens will read in a brochure which should arrive in their homes today and tomorrow from the Utah County Child Guidance Clinic. According to Dean Worlton, Lehi, every home in Utah County Coun-ty will receive the brochure vhich tells what the Guidance Clinic has accomplished in its two year of operation and what its present problem are. The brochure, entitled 'Ounce of Prevention" fund drive, asks each family in Central Cen-tral Utah to give an ounce o silver (value-approximtely $1.) as an "ounce of prevention" to save what could amount to, pounds and pounds of costly and sometime Ineffective "cure" in years to come, Mr. Worlton said. The brochure includes statements state-ments of ten prominent Cen tral Utah Citizens from varied walks of life endorsing the work being done of the Guidance Clinic. Cli-nic. Mr. Worlton urges every family fami-ly to retrun its contribution, no matter what size, in the enclosed enclos-ed postage-free envelope as soon as possible. The funds must come in rapidly to keep the clinic cli-nic in operation until additional state and federal funds can be made available. The clinic, which serves the needs of Utah County's emotionally emotion-ally distrubed children and their parents, is a non-profit corporation. corpor-ation. It is staffed by a psychiatrist psychia-trist and doctor, clinic psychologist, psycho-logist, two psychiatric social workers, a secretary and receptionist, recep-tionist, a stenographer and two student social workers. To date, since its inception, it has already served more than i t 7 mm? Want refreshment? m Drink MILK! WHO DfttVI m - , 1 f r r f UTAH COUNTY CHIU) GUlDMtfj! There is a waiting list of those desiring help. Although some Utah County families may never have heed for the services of the clinic directly, it is important to every family that it be kept open to serve those who need it, Mr. Worlton pointed out. The problems pro-blems of emotional disturbances in children do not stay in the home. They are reflected every year in the price we pay for breakdowns, divorce, loss of delinquenly, prisons, mental jobs, and genera! unproductive living, he said. The board of directors of the clinic has realized from the first that the financial stability of the clinic would be one of its greatest problems. Many Utah County families cannot pay the full cost of the services they re ceive at the Clinic, although some do. The board was worked uncreasingly to obtain more help from state and federal agencies. Progress is being made in this direction, however, the emotional emotion-al problems and future happiness happin-ess of Utah County's children cannot wait.
