Weeks Jr. was responsble for the re-opening of ihe Orem Public Library after the war and acted as the first chairman of the Orem Library Board. At the present time he is serving as first vice-president, vice-president, of the Orem 20-30 Club. He is donor of the Clyde E. Weeks Jr. Journalism Medal given annually at Lincoln high school. Mr. Weeks has been a member of the Geneva Ward Sunday Sun-day School Superlntendency and al the present time he Is serving as Speech-Arts Director In the MIA of the Orem First ward. He is also a member of the Orem stake MIA Board. His work as news editor of the Orem-Geneva Times for the past three years has kept him in close touch with city affairs, and his regular attendance at City Council meetings during this time has acquainted him intimately with the work of a Councilman. An overseas veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. Mr. Weeks was wounded in the invasion of Guam during World War II. He married the former Helen Bunnell, well-known vocalist. They have two children. Residing at 146 East Center. M. UTeeki would represent the center of the city. Clyde E. Weeks Jr. TWO-YEAR COUNCILMAN A varied background in construction work both as contractor con-tractor and as a foreman coupled with an intense interest in Orem and its development serve as an introduction to J. Alvln Higbee as a candidate for City Councilman-Mr. Councilman-Mr. Higbee, best-known perhaps as the owner and manager man-ager of Higbee's Home Furnishings which he operated in Orem for three years, was a building contractor in northern Idaho and Spokane, Washington for a number of years. He was super, visor of the NYA trade schools in Spokane from 1938 to 1941. In 1943 Mr. Higbee came to Orem as General Erection Foreman at Geneva Steel Co. During the recent construction program at the Geneva plant he was Superintendent of Machine Mach-ine Erection for Walsh Construction Co. Active in civic work and church positions, Mr. Higbee was a member of the board of directors of the Orem Chamber of Commerce in 1947-48. He was Branch President of the LDS church at Kellogg, Idaho for a time. In Spokane he was a member of the High Council for three years, and was also Superintendent of Sunday Schools in the district. He has been a member of the Timpanoges ward bishopric for the past five years. ' The Higbees have six children, three boys and three girls, ranging in age from nine to nineteen. Alvin Higbee CITY TREASURER r' I Well-known in Orem as a rural mail carrier on Route 1 is Russell Bellows, candidate for City Treasurer. Mr. Bellows worked as a carrier for the Orem Poet Office from the time the office opened in 1943 until 1948. His past experience in responsible clerical positions and unquestioned honesty qualify him for this important city financial fin-ancial post. During ihe lime the Geneva Sttel plant was under construction, con-struction, Mr. Bellows was employed there as a Field Clerk. He also worked as a Civil Service employee at Hill Field. After the Geneva Steel plant as taken over by U. S. Steel Co. Mr. Bellows held a clerical position there. Active in church work and interested in community development. de-velopment. Mr. Bellows has been a member of the Vermont ward Sunday School Superintendency, and at ihe present time is serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Orem stake Sunday School. He married the former Leona Davis and they have one child. Mr. Bellows resides in fountain View Subdivision and would represent the northeast section of Orem. 1 - : K jA & E.E. TTWETCKIELL As Mayor, Ephraim E. Twitchell, affectionately known as "Eph" to his many friends, would give new life to a somewhat passive administration. His recent term as City Councilman proved his ability and the fact that the interests of Orem come first to him. His enthusiasm for civic improvement is well-known and as Mayor, Eph Twitchell would carry that enthusiasm with him into office. As Mayor. Eph Twitchell would welcome suggestions suggest-ions for community betterment from one and all-Private all-Private business trips out of town and frequently out of the stale are not customary for Mr. Twitchell, and as Mayor he would be in Orem regularly to conduct Council meetings and to attend to other important city affairs. During his term as City Councilman Mr. Twitchell was instrumental in securing lights for the city soft ball park. He helped to organize the Orem Fire Department De-partment and was a party to the purchase of the fire engine and the construction of the present fire station. Much of the present city-owned road equipment was ordered while he was on the Council, and planning plan-ning for the current water expansion program was done at the same time. Active In civic affairs and church activities, Mr. Twitchell is Secretary-Treasurer of the Orem Peach Growers Association, and is a member of the board of directors of the Orem Lions Club. He was a member of the Velvet Highway Celebration general committee. Mr. Twitchell is a former bishop, ward clerk. Sunday School Superintendent, and High Councilman and at present he is a member5 of the Vermont ward Bishopric. A vigorous man 43 years of age. Mr. Twitchell is married to the former Fern Park. They have one son who attends Lincon high school. Residing at 508 East 2nd North for the past 17 years. Ephriam E. Twitchell would represent the center of the city. Buckley heads the group in many worthwhile civic aclvities. He was instrumental instru-mental in obtaining the "Welcome to Orem" illuminated signs which are found at the two entrances into Orem on U. S. 91. Mr. Buckley was a member of the Velvet Highay Cele. bration general committee, and i this capacity he supervised the midway and concessions. During the war he served two and one-half years with the U. S. Navy in the Pacific, and since his return he has been engaged in the real estate bJbiness. He is an ardent hunting and fishing enthusiast. He married the former Dorotha Jones, former teacher at Spencer, Sharon and Union schools. They have two children. Halford would bring a wealth of valuable c-perience c-perience to the office of City Councilman. Long active in civic and church work, he was President of the Junior Chamber Cham-ber of Commence- in Pocatello... Idaho in 1940 During this he also served as Vice-Chairman ef the Bannock County Safety Saf-ety Council. He is an Elder in the LDS church and at ihe present tisse he is serving as Drama Director in the MIA of his ward. Well-known in Orem for his ability as an artist through his work on parade floats and other mediums, Mr. Halford tireless in assisting worthy causes. At the present lime he is Advertising and Display Manager for a local department store. Since 1932 he has held lop positions in commercial art and advertising for such concerns as Fox-Inlermountain Theatres, Wilson-Wells Co., and Idaho Power Co. He owned and operated operat-ed an advertising and display business in Pocatello and in Og-den. Og-den. During the war years he held the key position as shop foreman at Hill Field where he gave instruction in camouflage camou-flage and markings on aircraft. After the war he acted as Advertising Ad-vertising Manager of the County Officer Magazine. The Halfords have four sons. The older children llend Orem schools. ' Residing in Beverly Place, Mr. Halford eu!d jepresent the northwest part of the city. Charles W. Ha!fnrJ CUT RECORDED As the only World War II Veteran who is candidate for City Recorder, Reese Pulham would bring lo office a back, ground of travel and observation, together with the education and experience which the office requires. He served in the U. S. Navy as a radar technician working in electronics. Two years of his military life was spent overseas. After the war Mr. Pulham served as a postal clerk in the Orem Post Office where he became well-known for his courtesy court-esy and efficiency. His duties as postal clerk involved writing money orders, sellng stamps, sorting mail and keeping records-During records-During his service at the posl office he became acquainted with .hundreds of Orem residents, many of whom declare him to be quahfied in every respect to be Orem Cily Recorder. In addition to his actual experience in clerical capacities. Mr. Pulham has further qualified himself in administrative work through his studies in business administration at the BYU. The son of Bishop and Mrs. Arch Pulham. well-known Otm residents. Reese Pulham is an active member of the Vermont Ver-mont ward. He would represent the northeast part of the city.
