LETTER TO THE EDITOR Editor: Orem-Geneva Times: Dear Sir: In order to clarify the position posit-ion of the Orem Chamber of Commerce, it is well to have the facts known to all, so that they may be in a position to properly proper-ly evaluate the necessity of zoning State Street. It was agreed by all of our leading business men that this city's growth is being drastically drastic-ally retarded , by having our main business section strung a-long a-long five miles of state street. How this condition came into existence, and who was responsible respon-sible for it, is not a subject to be discussed, to rectify this condition con-dition is of major importance, and, in order to do this we must act as a unit, and carry the proposition to a successful conclusion. con-clusion. The fact that we have no "complete" business section in Orem, as of this time, is handicapping handi-capping the construction of homes on residential property in that it is very difficult to finance the construction of new homes unless they are located reasonably close to a compact business district. To have good "business" we must have homes and to have home construction we must have business centers, therefore the need of zoning. Inasmuch as the elements of home construction and the necessity nec-essity of business zoning are inter-dependent, and in view of the known fact that business can only expand in proportion to the growth of the population, this zoning question becomes the concern of every property FOOD SPECIALS CANNED MILK, all brands, 4 cans 52c MARSHMELLOWS, 2 bags 25c RED & WHITE PEAS, No. 3 Sieve, 2 cans 39c BOBBINS' MARKET 8th South & State St, Phone 0570-R1 A Quiz Program Where Everybody Win 1 YOUR FRIENDLY OREM PHARMACIST ORVILLE K. Therefore the Chamber of Commerce proposes that, that plan which best serves the interests in-terests of all the people ot Orem Or-em City should be agreed upon, and put before the people as an initiative measure in order that all the people may vote, and decide this issue. We, the Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, have agreed that we should not let the elements of personality, greed, animosity, or previous mis-understandings, stand in the way of the proper development of our great city, to the mutual advantage of all the people. It is desirable that all who will speak on this sub-pect sub-pect at our next meeting, Friday, Fri-day, March 4, at 730 pa. at the Twin Pines Cafe, should keep the preceeding paragraph in mind. The President of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, who, at ting as chairman of this meeting, will not discuss this question at that meeting, and so, will herein clarify his position in relation re-lation to this matter by the following fol-lowing points: , 1. Though a property owner in Orem he does not own any property' on State Street. 2. Having heretofore been a Real Estate Broker, he has discontinued dis-continued his Brokers license, after having been elected to head the Chamber of Commerce, in order to handle the many problems arising, in an impartial impart-ial manner. 3. Of the two plans now under un-der discussion, many of his friends are not included in those portions that will eventually be decided upon as Business .District. .Dis-trict. 4. He has no interest, either from the 'standpoint of Sale or investment, ijnanciaily speaking, speak-ing, in any property along State Street; but on the contrary he is deeply interested ia the proper development of the entire en-tire town. All members of the Orem Chamber of Commerce should be present at the next meeting on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 at Twin Pines cafe. This year will decide whether we as a city shall go forward as one of the leading cities of the West, or "miss the boat"! completely. We need not less than 2,000 new homes this year. May we lay the firm foundation of these, and other homes and our future general welfare at this meeting. Our decision in this matter is of great importance.
