Harr to Howard Thompson. The couple were married early ear-ly in November. They are making mak-ing their home in Alhambra, California.- GENEALOGICAL CONVENTION SET AT SCERA SUNDAY A three-stakyj genealogical convention will be held Sunday, November 28, at the Scera theatre, according to E. H. Asay, chairman of the Sharon stake genealogical committee. Orem, West Utah and Sharon stakes will be represented at the conference. con-ference. The afternoon session will commence at 2 p.m. The public is invited to this session- Richard D. Herrick, electronics electron-ics technician, third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd M. Herrick of Lake View, has successfully suc-cessfully completed a course of instruction at the Electronics School located at Treasure Island, Is-land, San Francisco, California. Herrick entered the Naval service July 14, 1947, and received re-ceived his recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Deigo. Before entering the Navy he attended the Lincoln high school. Phone 0684 Jl Beehive Worker Honored At Open House An onen house reception hon oring Mrs. Caddie Ferre was held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Joy O. Clegg. The affair was sponsored by the YWMIA officers. Mrs- Ferre has worked with the Beehive girls for the past ten years and has served both in Vineyard ward and in the stake. A lovely gift was presented pres-ented to her and dainty refreshments refresh-ments were served by the Bee-hiv Bee-hiv girls- , Musical numbrs were furnished furn-ished by a trio comprising Janet Jan-et and Jean Clegg and June Allen, Al-len, with Joan Denke as accompanist; accom-panist; a cello solo by Dariene Thalman, accompanied by Le-Ann Le-Ann Clegg. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Miller and family are having Thanksgiving Thanks-giving dinner with relatives in American Fork. Keith Gordon, quartermaster, first class, USN, son of E. S. Gordon Gor-don of Rt. 2, Orem, is serving aboard the destroyer, USS Hy-man, Hy-man, cruising in the Mediterranean Mediterr-anean as part of the Sixth Task Fleet. Mediterranean duty will afford the ship's personnel an opportunity to visit many of the countries of Europe and Africa. Mr. and Mrs- Thomas Kitchen visited for several days in Nampa, Idaho with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Kitchen, who returned with them for a visit with friends and relatives in Orem. Women's Council Names New Officers Officers for the coming year were elected at a recent meeting meet-ing of the Orem Women's Coun cil held at the home of Mrs. Pederson. The council includes a representative from each women's wo-men's club in the city. Mrs- Ethel Pyne was named chairman of the council to succeed suc-ceed Mrs- Pederson. Mrs. Zoe Louder was chosen as secretary. The Project Committee is headed head-ed by Mrs. Dorothy Broadhead and includes Helen Hall ana Naomi Peterson. Mrs. Pederson reported the activities of the council awing aw-ing the past year. Burton Motor Opens at Former Orem Motor Co-Announcement Co-Announcement was made this week by Ira J. Burton and his son, Ira Devon Burton, former West Jordan residents, that they have taken over the operation operat-ion of the garage and sales rooms on 12th North and State which formerly housed the Orem Or-em Motor Company and more recently the Shepherd Motor Co. The two declared that they have prospects for a new car dealership for Orem and that in the meantime they will operate the service station and garage and carry a fine line of home appliances- The company will be known as the Burton Motor Co. The senior Burton has been! tonnected with the Utah Oil Re fining company for the pastj eight years and will continue to i deal in Utah Oil products. He and his son are experienced auto mechanics. They will specialize in motor tune-up work. Home appliances which the new business will carry include Gibson refrigerators and ranges, Toastmaster electric water heaters, heat-ers, Deep Freeze home freezers and Apex washers, ironers and vacuum cleaners. The scripture reading as given by Mrs. Ina Beardall and Mrs- Berniece Kirkwood gave the teachers training lesson. Parts were assigned ass-igned to the different classes for the Primary pageant to be given in December. Novel ideas for making Christmas presents were given and Mrs- Myrtle Carleton distributed copies of her favorite poem. Mrs. Edna Waters and Mrs. Carleton assisted ass-isted Mrs. Buckner in serving a light luncheon to 14 officers and teachers. Mrs. Laurel Gibson, captain of the Grand View DUP, reports that the camp conducted a very successful cake sale at Allen's market in Provo last Saturday. The proceeds will go to the DUP building fund. During six years in 4-H she has completed com-pleted seven projects, including two in Home Improvement, and has Berved her local club as president, presi-dent, vice-president, and secretary. What he has learned about poultry poul-try raising and poultry marketing has helped Eugene Drake, 16, ot Midvale, to win State honors in the 1948 National 4-H Poultry Achievement program. During five years in 4-H Eugene raised 350 New Hampshire Reds, 800 White Leghorns, and 125 White Plymouth Rocks. He has given 34 4-H talks at club, community, and school meetings, and has served his local club as vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.
