Bv KATHLEEN NORRIS AR0L is a very pretty i girl who married her Y school hero; she adored Johnnie in secret all through hfr girlhood, she watched him win football games in college years, she cried when she k&sed him goodbye and saw tj off to war, and they were ferried six months ago, when Johnnie came marching f 'He would be a perfect hus- bspd," she writes me, "if he were not so stuck on himself. Naturally, this disgusted me a f aeal, for the nature of these Rations wa -Tft;tJt--i chm tail i A girl who marries a handsome, hand-some, talented man can hardly be surprised if he is vain and boastful. Men are that way. Carol complains that her husband, hus-band, Johnnie, talks endlessly about his conquests of the heart, about how envious other men are of him, how married women fall for him, etc. This is getting pretty tiresome, Carol thinks. She is herself a beauty, and apparently completely satisfied with Johnnie, outside of his obnoxious egotism. They live on a nice little farm outside out-side the city where he works as an architect. He is successful, success-ful, well balanced despite his war experiences, affectionate and generous. They are eagerly eager-ly awaiting the arrival of their first child. Miss Norris replies that no marriage can be completely happy. There is always some flaw. In Car or s case, it seems to be merely an annoying trifle. The advancing years, says Miss Norris, will bring Johnnie John-nie many sobering experiences. This phase of Johnnie's will pass, says Miss Norris, leaving nothing but memories, if Carol will have the patience and wis dom tnjJiut. OW that the holiday season is 1 over, mother's thoughts turn to taking up the matter of household sewing to be done. First in mind is that little daughter needs school, play and party dresses which are both "comfy" and pretty-Dretty at the same time. And she knows the ' finished garments will be just that. ! for she has decided to make them of , cordurella, the soft modern pinwale version of the corduroy ever beloved be-loved by both mother and daughter. Jt's evident that mother's initial shopping tour in the new year will lead straight to the fabric section where she will buy so many yards : of cordurella in this color and so i many in that. Then to the pattern counter to choose the latest in jumper, jump-er, party and play clothes. Or perhaps per-haps mother will decide to buy the little garments ready-made. In either ei-ther event the result will be just such cunning styles as are here pictured. pic-tured. It has bands of bright colored col-ored braid to set off the dark tone of the cordurella. A long-sleeved blouse which buttons inside the cuff for easy handling is just like mother's moth-er's favorite mode. If a remnant of cordurella be left over in the same or even a different color a wise move would be to stitch up a wee bolero to wear with this dress, which would multiply its usefulness. A winsome dressy version is seen in the party dress of cordurella shown to the left. This little charmer is gaily trimmed with colorful col-orful embroidery on the tiny bodice. bod-ice. Crisp white niching tucked into the square neckline is another reason why this dainty little frock will endear itself to tiie little girl who wears it. Beloved among the party frocks shown in new collections, a favorite is a cute princess style with dainty lace .collar and tiny puff sleeves. This model comes in heavenly pink or celestial blue cordurella, guaranteed guar-anteed to make any little beloved daughter look like an angel child. About 60 years ago, a Japanese "Susan Anthony," Miss Kageyama, started campaign for women's rights, ana was Jailed for her daring. Throughout the Orient the idea of granting women a share in political politi-cal life made practically no prng rest until 1935 when the Philippines' granted equal voting rights. w I little flatterers are the ig hoods of wool jersey that ! sn everywhere these wintry t seems that wool jersey has hing that goes to make up the . :t hood. Two pretty dresses for mid-winter graduates grad-uates include a short dress of winter-white rayon jersey. It has a low round neck and is styled with a wide corselet effect which accents the little waist This style is also pretty in white wool jersey. The , other dress is for the older gradu- j ate and is a bit more sophisticated. This model has a full floor-length skirt of stiffened net with a perfectly perfect-ly plain fitted bodice top with cap sleeves done in white satin. Lynn Says: Save fuel by using your range properly: Keep a pilot burner clean. When a quart of water is enough, don't heat a gallon. Turn the gas or electricity off before instead of after removing the utensil from the range. For top-of-the-stove cooking, use a pan with straight sides as it heats more efficiently. Cook several foods at the same time when using the oven. A casserole, vegetable and pudding may all be baked at one time. Duplicate or triplicate pans, made to fit together over one burner, are excellent to use for cooking and saving fuel. To prevent failures while baking, bak-ing, and also to save fuel, use the oven regulator and refrain from peeking into the oven. gar. Simmer 10 minutes. Pour over beans and serve.
