Dearest Mother: Ten minutes atfo. tlie smoke of an ocean steamer could lie seen rising from tlie ho.Uon and I hasien to send yon a line. It is just ten minutes of one and the sixth day bewail just ten minutes as;o. We left the rest of the fleet this uiorninn at 8 a. in. and will be in Honolulu -18 hours before the others. The wcat her is simply Krand, there is hardly a ripple on the sea and the blue skv is a fitting contrast to the deep blue waters beneath. In hoeing into the water you cannot see one inch below the surface because of -the blue color of the water. Flying fish can be seen almost every moment skimming over ( he water and then disappearing be-bptcalli be-bptcalli the waves. We boarded the steam ;r on Tuesday and came out into in-to the bay in the eveniiu. Wednesday Wednes-day at 1 :.'! p. in. we steamed out of the Golden gate and in a lew hours American soil faded from my view. I didn't pay much attention to that, however as I was beginning to be seasick. In a short time 1 relieved myself of the first installment of my flintier and from then on, 1 paid internal in-ternal revenue to Neptune until late in the evening; when 1 went, to bed on a coil of rope that lay u)nu the deck. I was sick for three days, but am, now all right and have my sea legs on and am eating my hardtack and bacon. During our trip so far, everything every-thing has gone un in good shape with us. I was homesick for two days, and it hasn't worn off yet, but when, we land at Honolulu and I feel old mother earth once more beneat h my feet. I'll be ail right again. We are very thickly crowded together on this boat in the, day time, as every one is on deck breathing the sea air. Our days on board are ve.rv monotonous, monoto-nous, an 1 we are growing very 'azy. There is one very good feature about the whole thing, and that is the ship is well ventilated and healthful. We have some drill each day, which tends to relieve the tiresome monotony of ship life. We expect to arrive in Honolulu some time to-night. We are going to have one day on shore, and I believe it will be a day appreciated appre-ciated more than a:iy other day we boys have seen tor a long time. I go on guard this afternoon. I must close now as the steamer is drawing near. I will write from Honolulu. With love to the dear ones at home. From your loving son. Dow The following i an extract from a letter written after landing at Honolulu. Hon-olulu. Yesterday morning we landed at Honolulu. We marched to the baths and bathed at the great Moibikc beach. We then returned and were feasted by the citizens of the city in a royal manner, in the police grounds. Fifteen hundred men, soldiers, sat down to dinner and it was an excellent excel-lent meal, consisting of many dishes. We were shown over the beautiful city, in which palm grows and flower gardens appear every where. Today we are to Jie taken all over the island, by courtesy of a Mr. Kinney (formerly of Salt Lake Citv) who furnishes the La Grippe, Followed by Heart Disease, Cured by DR. MILES' HEART CURE. MR. C. C. SHuLTS, of Wlnterset, Iowa, inventor and 'manufacturer of Shulti' Safety Whlffietree Coupling, writes of Dr. Miles' Heart Cure. "Two years ago an attack of LaGrippe left me with a weak heart. I had run down in flesh to mere akin and bone. I could not sleep lying down for smothering spells', frequent sharp darting pains and palpitation caused a constant con-stant fear of sudden death, nothing could Induce me to remain away from homo over night. My local physician prescribed Dr. Miles' Heart Cure and in a few days I was able to sleep well and the pains gradually lessened, and finally ceased. I reduced the the doses, having gained fifteen pounds, and am now feeling newer in every wuj mm have for years." He says that he will take all that the men or boys can catch, and will pay 10 cents per pound cash. This is a good offer and advantage, should be taken of the same by our tlsherman. A lively runaway occurred on State street Wednesday morning. - John Averett who had been to the cieamery. drove up in front of .1. I'. Evan's tin shop. He left his team while he went into the shop. It soon started off on a run, and in spite of the efforts c f many, went dashing northward, and turned east at Packard's store and brought up at Mr. Averett's home, where the team stopped. No damage was done to either the horses or the wagon. Mr. Averett's little boy was in the wagon during the entire trip and was both uninjured and unconcerned. Mrs. Averett came out to the gate and the little fellow was finite cool and explained just how it all happened. No wonder Dewey, Schley, Sampson, Hobsou and- Shaffer are astonishing the world w hen the tots now coming forward show such examples are being produced right, along, and in snch profusion that the next generation genera-tion in Europe will, without exception, excep-tion, speak very respectfully of every lion's whelp in America.
