The citizens Lave authorized the City Council lo lay the bonding bond-ing proposition ho fore them in a special (diction, and it now only remains to krep the hall rolling until it gains sutlicient momentum to reach the goal safely. That means work, and lots of it. Great numbers of Spring-ville'd Spring-ville'd older and substantial citizens dread I he name of bonds and bonding as I hey do the incarnation in-carnation of evil, and mostly because be-cause (Ley do not fully understand under-stand just wLat it in tLis instance in-stance implies, and have not fully considered llie justification. This must be explained to everyone. every-one. Many consider electric ligbts u luxury, and are opposed and rightly too to going in dibt for luxuries. It must be shown lo such that electric lights are not a luxury, but that us compared to them in every way, coal oil lamps are a luxury and u dangerous one. Reason juid facts -will appeal to all these, us they are intelligent people. There are a few others nnd they are very few, thank Heaven who fear hat a few cents will bo added to their annual an-nual taxes in this effort to smooth the path of progress. A surgical operation will be necessary neces-sary in these few cases, and the reasons and facts will have to be put in place by means of a tamping iron. Springville and her people are not going to allow a goodly minority of citizens to oppose this proposition, and give out he impressic n that she is partly part-ly in the backwoods and partly somewhere else, if a campaign of education will prevent it. Not much! Her people are too proud of their town and her fair fame as a progressive, up-to-date city to let tLat ever occur. Just wlien this election will take place is a matter of conjecture. con-jecture. There are a good many formalities to be gone through with, and tho suggestion lias been made that at tho regular November election would be time enough. A separute registration regis-tration list of the property owners who are qualified to vote in tliw case would have to be prepared. Another suggestion is that that is none too soon, on account of the time needed to make a thorough canvass, and that at that season of the year the citizens will have more time to study and discuss the proposition proposi-tion intelligently. At any rate, a littlo delay cannot can-not hurt the question. It has force and vigor enough to keep it alive for all time. Let uj commence to agitate, and the sooner the belter. VTAU AND COWIiAIKf LAKES. Under the above heading the the Salt Lake Herald indulges in some comparisons not at nil to the advantage of Colorado's iheets of water, and calls atten tion lo the amount of advt Hi-- ! i ing I hey an-given, as eompan-'i to llrose of our own S:a!u. One, and the chief reason fur this, is that, the Denver and Colorado papers never lire of telling of the grandeur of llie scenery of their state. The Denver Times speaks ol Colorado's lakes and praises them after this fashion: "There is Palmer lake, only two hours away from Denver. Every tourist passis it, every citizen manages lo visit it, at some lime or other din ing the year. Four lines of railroad Iind themselves unable to get bevond it without stoppiin' a i few minutes for luncheon or j sight-seeing. j "Then away up on Tike's Teak trail is the lake of an old morain, and 011 the shoulder of the peak are seven small natute's reservoirs in a group, called the Seven lakes. They all reflect the mountains as clearly as the famous Mirror lake of Yosemite valley. "But the pride of the state in the group known as the Twin lakes, situated far up in the 10,000-foot altitude, and tlu:s surpassing in uniqueness the Swiss lakes, few, if any, of which can boast of such lofty perm a nent residence. These Twin lakes lie within short range of the great carbonate mining camp of Leadville, and thus illustrate a common feature ol Ool(rauo landscape, namely, tliat every mining camp has us lako near at hand for st u in mer recreation and sport." All that is hero said of Colo rado's lakes can be said of Utah's lakes, and men e. Palmer lake is only two hours away from Denver, if the speed of the train be near forty-live miles an hour, (ireal SaUhak? is only twenty minutes away ,,, c 1. 1 ,i n . .1 ' from Suit Lake Ciiv at the fame rule of travel. Put what a dill'er- en ce between them! We have no intention or desire to dispar-ngo dispar-ngo Palmer lake, (there isn't enough of it to disparage) ami at best it is a small sheet of water artificially formed, while Great Salt Lake, what a grand sheet of water it is! And nowhere no-where in tho world is there a finer panorama of mountain scenery than that which sur- rounds 1 . 1 1.-0 view from the j lake to the east and west, to the north and south, is ono that impresses itself upon llie niiml to he carried into the world be- yond the grave for the purpose ol comparison with the celestial f progress, th- electric lamp, scenery of tho realms ofetu nal bliss. Roy-lance, Roy-lance, the committee appointed to solicit funds in Utah county for the Pioneer Jubilee, have appointed as sub-committees, the mayors of the different cities, in order to make a more thorough canvas. Utah county ought to put up generously in nid of the event, as the success of it means much fur the State as a whole and not a little for this county in particular. Cash is what is needed, and as the lime is now short, cash in band it ought to be. We hone (he committee's i solicitations will meet with a j ready and licaily response. It is hard to say whether the indifference manifested in t he mailer of the celebration of Independence In-dependence day can be more properly attributed to a lack of patriotism or to a desire to spend lots of moicey at the Pioneer Jubilee in Salt Lake three weeks , , ,v, , , , , biter. 1 h is Jubilee business is a11 nl,t' ,here H,' ,ots of people hero who will not be able to go to Salt Lake 011 that date, and something ought to be done to have a celt brat ion here where they can participate in it, and the -lib of Julv is the proper lay.
