Former chief given probation in Coalville child abuse case Former Coalville Police Chief Daniel Soelberg received 18 months' probation Monday on the condition he undergo therapy for attempting to sexually abuse a child and contributing con-tributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was sentenced in 3rd District Court by Judge Scott Daniels on the two charges, to which he pleaded guilty as charged Nov. 18, 1985. The charges stem from incidents involving involv-ing two girls. The charges were brought after Soelberg had been chief of police in Coalville for about 18 months. He subsequently resigned his post Oct. 31. Daniels sentenced Soelberg to a term of zero to five years at the Utah State Prison for the sex abuse charge and six months at the Summit Sum-mit County Jail for the contributing charge, which was a misdemeanor. But the judge stayed the imposition of both sentences and ordered the former chief to serve 18 months probation pro-bation guided by four provisions. The probation conditions state that Soelberg must enter the Northern Nor-thern Utah Sex Offenders treatment program which lasts about ok year; he cannot have any contat with the victims unl " vuitittlit nermitted bv an nffirpr nf tv. i..., ment program; he must maintain empiuymeni aunng nis time ii Droeram: and hp must no,, 1 " pQj treatment costs incurred by his tims.
