It's a clas sic example of a California Chardonnay." Wine with a Unique Twist There are several novelty wines on the market with a unique twist that not only make a great gift, but also are great conversation pieces. For instance, Moab's Castle Creek Winery, for merly known as the Arches Winery, offers a packaged gift set of their 2001 Chardonnay and Merlot available for $24.95. ' And speaking of twists, the screw-top screw-top cap is making a comeback in the wine world. Some wine enthusiasts say that screw-caps are better than the traditional wine corks because they can easily be resealed and eliminate elim-inate any possibility Of cork taint, which creates a musty and moldy characteristic to the wine. Defa likes Bonny Doon's 2002 Ca'del Solo Big House White ($9.95). A handful of celebrities have made a segue into winemaking. Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola produces a variety of wines from his Napa Valley winery. win-ery. Defa recommends Coppola's Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay ($16.95): Golf fans will appreciate appreci-ate a bottle of Greg Norman's 2000 Shiraz : ($14.95). . The orange undertones under-tones of the 2000 Quady Orange Muscat ($20.95) pairs nicely with lighter desserts. Cheers to the New Year New Years Eve would not be R i complete without a great Champagne toast Defa says two bottles to try this year are the affordable afford-able Roderer Estate Brut ($20.95) and the indulgent Krug Grande Cuvee ($144.70). If your fellow New Years' revelers prefer tequila to Champagne, cele- Ul aiu Willi a uiui i miuu yu- $60), or the Cuervo Reserva de la Familia ($109.95).
