Rather, it wound up being just the tough learning experience he had hoped for. After seeing see-ing his team run up a gaudy record versus competition com-petition that doesnt exactly reside on the top shelf, Pretorius was convinced his athletes needed need-ed a trying test in preparation for the upcoming State Tournament, to be held May 9 and 10. The loss, coupled with the fashion in which it jaccurred, will ultimately help the Miners grow "stronger. At least, that's what Pretorius hoped the team would consider over the weekend break. , "I think it was a weekend of reflection for the guys. I honestly believe you learn more from your losses than you do from your wins," he said. "And, in talking to them, while I pointed out what went wrong, I also pointed out what they need to do differently, so that when they're playing play-ing at State, or if we play Rowland Hall next year, we'll have a different result." , More immediately, though, any concerns the coach might have harbored about a post-defeat hangover were exorcised by Monday, when the Miners returned to action in a Region 10 match versus Judge. The Parkites won by a 4-1 score to improve to 15-1 overall, 5-0 region. They were back in action Tuesday at Wasatch (results were not available as of press time), and will take on Granite at the Racquet Club today, and travel to Uintah on Thursday for the regular season finale. Pretorius suspected that in spite of playing those four matches in four days, his team would have little trouble, noting that the first conference confer-ence go-round of the season saw the Miners earn 5-0 sweeps of them all. Similar results were both expected and needed need-ed this time around, he added. "This week, the pressure's on for the guys to win every match 5-0," Pretorius said. "This is when seeding for State is determined, so the guys need to keep it up." Not that he has any doubt they will. After all, the Rowland Hall blip aside, the coach still believes what he said of his team before the season sea-son started back in mid-March that this group is one of his best ever. "We're right there," Pretorius said. "We've had a lot of match play, the guys are tournament tough... Going into State, we're prepared and ready for it." ! NewApaper Recycle!
