The Muckers took an early lead with two Matt MacLeod penalty kicks until a defensive lapse in the center let haggis through for the game's first try. The Muckers maintained their lead after Haggis continually infringed in their own half, giving away kickablc penalties. An injury to flanker Billy Reid forced an early debut for New Zealander Mark DeGoldi, who had an immediate impact on the game. Attacking the short side, DeGoldi drew two defenders before popping a short ball for Aaron Smith to score. A second Haggis try saw the Muckers' halftime lead cut to seven points. Park City went further ahead in the second half. A sliced drop-goal attempt from five and five-eighth Jason Moreton was recovered in the corner by winger Louis Smith. The ball was moved infield to DeGoldi, who went over for his debut try. Some defensive mistakes from the Muckers allowed Haggis back in the game, however, and very soon the score was tied at 24. Haggis managed to hold out the Muckers for the final 20 minutes and, turning defense into attack, scored the winning try six minutes from the end. The Muckers camped on the Haggis' tryline for the final six minutes but couldn't punch through for a score. Despite the defeat, the Muckers showed continued improvement on the form that saw them win the Love of the Game tournament at Sun Valley two weeks ago. The Muckers knocked off the hosts and also beat Jackson Hole to come away with first place. The Muckers are back in action Saturday, June 15 when they take on Uinta at 1 p.m. at Murray Field. Anyone wishing to play for the Muckers experienced or novice is welcome to train Tuesdays and Thursdays at City Park. Training starts at 6 p.m. prompt. FIS approves change at Slovenia meetings Continued from B-1 to enhance the opportunities for more skiers to have a chance to win. Under the new protocol, the top 30 skiers will start in reverse order. Trie change was designed to stem a trend where virtually all World Cup speed races were being decided before even 10 skiers had started. In the super G event, the latest 'World Cup Start List' a ranking rank-ing list of the top racers will be used to seed the race, with the top-30 top-30 order reversed for the top-30 starters in the competition. There will be two procedures in downhill. down-hill. When two or more downhill training runs are conducted prior to the World Cup event, the ranking rank-ing list from the second training run will be used, with the top 30 reversed in the start of the downhill. down-hill. Where just one training run is held, the World Cup Start List in reverse order will be used to seed the top-30 start positions. Presently, racers select their start number with the best choosing choos-ing start numbers first. Generally, most top skiers select start positions posi-tions between five through 10 when course conditions are best The result has been a situation where virtually every super G and most downhills are decided before; 10 starters. The change is expected; to have a dramatic effect on results and build more fan and television '. appeal for World Cup competi-J tions. 'J A new slalom procedure, which was tested a year ago in a stand-I alone event, will be added to one J World Cup this next season. The; so-called 'KO Slalom' will be; implemented in a night race in Sestriere, Italy Dec. 15-16 fort women and men. Under the new format, a quali- fying run is held during the day with the top 30 from that qualify-' ing run seeded into the start of the , World Cup. In the first run, the- first racer and 30th racer will race individually with the best time advancing, and so on. The 15 winners win-ners plus the three fastest times among the losers will advance to the next round. The 18 skiers in the next round will follow a similar format, resulting in nine skiers advancing to the third and final round, where time alone will determine the final ranking.
