W Myrtle Young (inset above right) was born June 28, 1902, in Heber City to i Brigham and Sarah Young. When Myrtle - was two years old, the family moved to Park : City so her father could be close to his work as a blacksmith in the mines. When Myrtle graduated from Park City , High School, she went to work as a clerk at Park City's most popular department store, r Welsh, Driscoll & Buck. One of her jobs was to sit in the office . above the main floor of the store (upper center of photo) and receive purchases in big wicker baskets sent from the main floor - by a pulley system. She and the other clerk wrapped the items, prepared the bills and sent everything every-thing by . pulley back to the main floor. The money transaction was also accomplished with the pulley system. The system was fast and efficient and was used by a number of early stores in Utah, including J.C. Penny. While Myrtle was working in Welsh's she met Fraser Buck, the son of William Buck, one of the partners in the prosperous store. After a short courtship, they were married in 1924. Fraser eventually replaced his father as a partner in Welsh's. Myrtle and Fraser had six children, two of whom live in Utah, Mrs. LeRoy (Phyllis) Kohler in Midway and Mrs. Hal (Marjorie) Himes in Brigham City. During hard economic times in 1954, Welsh, Driscoll & Buck was forced to close its doors. ,s'tr.- In 1968, using his many notes and photographs, pho-tographs, Fraser co-authored Park City's history book, "Treasure Mountain Home," just in time for the Centennial. Myrtle typed the many pages of the original manuscript on her manual typewriter. The interesting history book is still available in its third edition. edi-tion. Fraser died in 1979 and Myrtle in 1984. They are buried side by side in the Park City Cemetery. The employees in the photo of Welsh's clothing department (left to right) are Henry Welsh (partner), J.
