Show The Park Record C-5 Saturday, May 19, 2001 v or an. lun ai luioso avis resuvai The Moab Aits Festival, one of Moabls most exciting events, is coming up Memorial Day Weekend Now in its ninth year, the festival features over 50 booths of the highest quality handcrafted artwork art-work from award-winning artists throughout Utah and Colorado. This two-day event also includes live entertainment, a food court and a kid's corner. The Festival runs Saturday, May 26 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 27 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Moab Arts & Recreation Center (MARC) located locat-ed at 111, East 100 North in downtown down-town Moab. Admission to the Festival is FREE! An exciting variety of art forms will be shown at the 2001 Moab Arts Festival. Pottery, jewelry, wearable art, metal work, stained glass, photography, handpainted silk scarves, handcrafted clothing and accessories, candles, handmade soap and much, much more will be featured during this two-day event. All work is made, designed and conceived by the artist, and the Festival selects only those artists who display a high caliber of workmanship work-manship and design. Each year the Festival features new and returning artists and mediums. medi-ums. One of the mainstays of the Festival is pottery. Different influences influ-ences of the Southwest are apparent appar-ent in the ceramics of Nina Williams of Grand Junction, Aaron Ashcraft of Salt Lake City, and Virginia Sisnroy. Other pottery includes Suzan Daltonls functional floral design work and Mike Hays' unique geometric style. Jewelry is another category with a wide representation of artists and styles. Park City artist Suz! Mole works with transformations of ' vibrant and hypnotic colors of glass, which she kiln-fires to form, pieces of functional art as well as wearable glass jewels. Polymer clay is the material of choice for jewelry artist Rachel Gartung of Heber. The colors, shapes and ancient Indian artwork of the surrounding landscape inspire many other Festival artists. Artist Jerry Fuhriman is well known for his vast Western landscapes painted in oils and watercolors. Surprises await even veteran art ' festival-goers. Award winning artist Malen Pierson of Logan creates fanciful sculptures from recycled metal Enter the fairy tale world of Gina Sabaliauskas, with her fanciful clay castles and animals. Moab artist Susan Jamieson uses silk as her canvas for her luxurious hand painted scarves. KZMU, a sponsor of the Moab Arts Festival will provide the entertainment once again this year with favorites like the Moab Taiko Drummers. The lineup includes performers Joel Cage, Rose Morris, David O-Wiler, Phil & Debbie, . Echo & Frequency, Stonefed, and the The Red Rock Dancers. ' The Reuss exhibit contains nearly SO pieces of original art and writings for the public to ponder including black and white ink drawings of the stark trees, jutting rock and lines of the desert landscape; colorful water-colors water-colors 6f canyon arroyo; many photographs and writings, and personal items such as Reuss's Kodak camera. To complement the exhibit; a collection of W.L. Rusho's book "Everett Reuss: Vagabond for Beauty" will be on hand - many are signed. Saturday evening, May 19 the new film, "Lost Forever EVERETT REUSS," directed by Dianne Orr, premiers ; at the Masonic Temple, 650 East South Temple at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the film is an $8 suggested donation.
