Show Wednesday, February 7, 2001 The Park Record A-11 Fresh Prints Contributions from Summit County kids All students in Summit County schools had an opportunity to submit their questions, concerns and opinions opin-ions about the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The following are some of the responses. Patti Volte's fourth-grade class at Parley's Park Elementary School, ParkChy i hope people around the world will learn that Utah is a wonderful place to be. 1 say this because everyone every-one is kind, it is a beautiful place, and it is far away from big city life." -Sarah Aden "I hope that people from other countries will realize that Utah is a very friendly and active state." "1 hope that people from other countries all over the world learn how fair and free our country is." Jake "1 hope they will understand that we are trying to save the endangered species of our lush forests and valleys." val-leys." -MikeM. We're a state with lots of snow in the winter and it s very hot in the summer. Our state is a desert. We also have a lot of mountains surrounding sur-rounding us." -Geoff Keene "1 hope the people from the other countries will learn a lot about us. I also hope they will learn about how and what we eat. 1 think it is going to be crowded and strange because I am not used to all the people." -UzMargofe "I hope all the people will understand under-stand that Utah is a very good place to nave tne uiympics. That Utah is a wonderful place to have the Olympics and the people that live in Utah are excited to have the Olympics in Utah." -Madison, Kate and Shasta Webb "That it is very dry here and we have the greatest snow on earth." -Cheyenne Zambrano and Trese DaBell "We welcome all kinds of people. Utah has deserts, mountains and many cool places to visit." - Jay ce Whiting, Raugh Harrison "Everyone is not Mormon and we have wildlife and forests, it's not just desert and snow." "That Mormons are the best." -Tanner McCuDough Ecker Hill Middle School students: "I think it's cool that they will be here in Park City, but it could totally wreck our city, too. The attention is finally on us. I think that people will either move here once they see how great it is or they will all come for the Olympics once we've built tons of stun and then leave us trashed and like a ghost North Summit Middle School, "1 think the Olympics here was a bad idea. I mean, think of all the criminals that are going to be wandering our streets." -Jessica Edens "How do you know the judges are judging fairly?" -ErikeKeffer "How come so many drug tests were later proven wrong?" "What are you going to do about violence during the Olympics?" -Lisa Hibler "I think it is awesome that they are coming as long as we can still go boarding." -Jentry ADsop "It will wreck our environment because they are destroying fields to make parking lots and buildings." -Lacey "I want everyone to know how ath- "The effects are that Park City gets out for two weeks while the rest of us are in school. They dont have to make it up either. They just take it out of their break days. Morgan and bait Lake do, too! I think that it could cause problems because the kids of the other schools won't think its too fair. I think that if they let out three or so schools that the rest of the schools should too. But honestly, I dont think anyone or any school should get out. "Who will sing the National Anthem? Will there be tryouts?" -Leslie Rees "At the Olympics, are the resorts going to be open for regular use? Can we snowboard after an Olympic event has happened? Will we get the signatures of the Olympic teams?" -Drew Robinson "Have Blink 182 of Lincoln Park sing. Then have drawings for people to win stuff. Then have fireworks and skydivers." "I hope they notice what a cool state we have. I think they should have a snowball fight at the end of the Olympics. They should have tons of fireworks and jets fly overhead." -Cade Rkhins "I think the effect the Olympics had on the schools and community isnt right. Even though the Olympics occur here, it doesn't mean we have to miss school. Besides, the school that get out have two more weeks during the summer." "I think that the Olympics will probably prob-ably impact the community by people peo-ple staying in trailer plots. And there will be a lot of different cultures cul-tures of people here. It will be cool to see the uiympics come. "Whenever I hear that snowboard-ing snowboard-ing s on TV, I just drop whatever I'm doing and watch the event." Weston Hortta ' I would like to watch the ice-skaters ice-skaters do a triple axle. The other people around the world will hopefully hope-fully be happy to learn about Utah and the people that live in Utah and it would be cool for the people that live in Utah to learn about the other people.' "What can we do to help bring pride to our state? We are not old enough to volunteer on the Internet. How can we help?" -Dustin Orgill "For the opening ceremony, I would start it off with someone cool from all the different countries singing their anthems." -JocelynPeck "It will have a negative impact because it will crowd Salt Lake City and put Utah in debt because of all the road construction and property value and prices will drop all around tne pa ano tanner.
