Show Saturday, May 16, 1998 The Park Record A-11 5 Fresh Prints Contributions from Park City kids WHY I LIKE THE COMMUNITY OF PARK CITY by Ryan Pigg 4th Grade - Ms. Farnsworth Parley's Park Elementary I like my community because Park City is not like any other place. The outdoors, the people and the history make my community commu-nity unique. Within 10 minutes of home you can be at a glistening reservoir reser-voir or in a minute at a crackling brook outside your back door. Sometimes it seems the trout jump up and ask to come home with you. I have seen so many types of wildlife right in my very own backyard. During the winter a monstrous moose guards my favorite sledding hill. An eagle watches over a crystal white plain outside my bedroom window. One morning my dad and I went fishing. We didn't catch anything, any-thing, but we had a lot of fun. We went where the river flows into the Jordanelle. We watched the fog lift from the water and it seemed to rise to the top of the snow-capped mountains. The ripple rip-ple of the water in the stream looked as though the fish were dancing. All around was the sound of life. Branches crackling under our feet, birds singing and the wind tickling our faces. Besides the animals, the people peo-ple who live here are like no others. oth-ers. While many famous people live in my community, that is not what makes Park City really special. spe-cial. My teachers are nice and we do more things than you can imagine. Our neighbors are very friendly and we are always doing fun things in our neighborhood, such as Secret Santa at Christmas. Christ-mas. I have a great time taking care of their dogs and helping out with their yards when they are out of town. Many people feel so safe in Park City that they do not even bother to lock their doors. I never imagined watching the Winter Olympics and seeing people peo-ple that I had played video games with the previous summer. Those same people had spent the summer sum-mer teaching me tricks on the tramp at Winter Sports Park and giving me tips on how its done in competition. History is also all around us in my community. Every day we see reminders of Park City's past. Main Street, the Miners Hospital and the silver mine make the 1800s seem like they were just yesterday. Salt Lake City is also rich in history. Recently my class and I visited Abravanel Hall. Many famous people have sung there. Our school has been invited invit-ed to perform there later this year. We also visited the State Capitol. While we were there we met the mayor and learned about the history of Utah. My class and I were one of the first to see the Generational generosity ORDER OF -v . mJ '- - i rnnr PHOTO COURTESY OF THE COLBY SCHOOL Colby School founder Teri Wiss accepts a charitable donation of $20,000 from her parents, Mace and Don Wiss. Probably the greatest example of history is in Temple Square. People from all over the world come to visit this beautiful place. It is incredible that this huge temple was built from granite by the early settlers. At Christmas there are so many lights that you can see the Temple for miles. Even the huge organ with its gigantic array of pipes told its history with every note. You could almost hear the voices of those who had stood there before you. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to live in Park City and to experience everything the great state of Utah has to offer. I realize it is a privilege that few people are given and that it is up to my generation to see to it that it is preserved and protected, so that others will have the opportunity opportu-nity to experience its beauty for years to come.
